Got a new one a few days ago:
If I lean slightly to the left, the front of my right arm from the bicep to the thumb goes tingly like it is "asleep". If I tilt my head the other way to goes back to normal in a few seconds. I'm figuring a pinched nerve. My typical strategy is to just wait for it to go away but that seems to take longer than it used to. |

Not that I have experienced this one (truly I have not)... but the need for the blue pill

Kids don't know what good music is any more.
Now that I am 50 I find myself reaching for reading glasses more and more and it seems I am constantly plucking nose and ear hair. |
Sammy. It is probably a pinched nerve. I have one affecting my left side, which started in the 90s. Lately I've been experiencing some symptoms on my right side. Supposedly the pinching is caused by an arthritic condition in the spinal portion of the neck area causing a reduction of the hole (fossa) where the nerve exits and causes the pinching. The irritation on my left side subsided over the years. I think because the body becomes accustomed to the constant irritation and begins to block it out.

Another thing that I was reminded of with the colonoscopy prep thread.

Haven't hit the age and don't qualify as at risk but this one can't be fun

At 55 I've been feeling a little old lately.
You gents have cheered me up!! |
My father in law used to say it was downhill after 50. 60 was not bad but in my 70's is more challenging. Still can walk five miles a day no problem. Still a moving target is harder to hit than a stationary one.

So many of my freinds are lazy, they come home from work and do nothing but watch TV, eat, and drink. I barely sit down for dinner, and am usually up and walking about doing things till bed time.
STAY ACTIVE to keep alive ! |
Damn this thread got long fast!
|
I almost had to take a nap between pages 3 and 4.

FYI: If you want to read something sort of funny about getting older try reading the very last article in this month's issue of Field & Steam Magazine by Bill Heavey.
His column is called "A Sportman's Life", this month's feature (December 2018) is titled "Coming of Age" - Making The Most Of My Mature Years. It is just one page of light reading, does not look like it's been posted in his online blog yet. https://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/a-sportsmans-life |

I remember standing outside of the Town and Country club in St. Paul, MN. after one of my many cousin's weddings back in the '90s. I was in my early 30s. A Catholic priest who my older cousins knew was with us. He asked my cousin Joe how old he was, (knew him since early childhood). My cousin answered that he was 40 and said something about, "life begins @ 40..." The priest answered, "Oh BS! It's all downhill from here..." We all nearly fell over laughing. :D:D |

I can remember decades of specifications and designs, but can't remember what I went into the kitchen for.

Wow, that's pretty good. I had a vertical leap of 34" in the seventh grade. Didn't get measured after that. Obviously that's out of the question now, although I did jump up onto one of those 24" crossfit boxes a couple of years ago. |

Just got back to shop after finding dear pal dead in his bed at 54, three hours ago (gone since Monday night). 17 year old daughter texts me this AM "Have you heard from my Dad?" Went over with a mutual pal and I peeked into bedroom where tv was on. Scared since I knew not normal - his silence. Perfectly prone. No thrashing indication, no nothing. No breathing. Ashen face and deep blue lips. Eyes closed. Worse ways to go out. |

I don't trust my farts anymore.

My 90 year old neighbor is quite a character. He helped me build my 2300 sq ft workshop about 3 years ago. One of his lines - "As a 90 year old man, you don't start a project that you can't finish that day!"

I will not be a thread killer with this unfortunate event. Thousands die unexpectedly every day. Carry on, this is a good thread. That said, my breaking wind "episodes" at 62 are worthy of note. Couple times a year. PM me for details. My joint problems move around but most alarming is at the base of my thumbs....pain. Probably arthritis. Removing a bolt or nut is slow and my Turrets kicks in. Three pees a night, two if no beer. It's like clockwork. 2:00am and 5:30 with no booze. Throw in a 3:30 on a beer night. |

Back on topic. Now that I'm older, it takes way more than 10 minutes to "reload". |
Hey Bob....that sux man...glad you shared it here too. We gots a couple of "leapers" here (wow...seriously!)...I watched the skywalkers from a very low altitude way back when....most were "brothers" though ;)
I have a lousy verticle jump....unless I'm on a ladder! |
Well, old or not, and almost not...at 63 and 9 years after AML...leukemia , every day is a good day in my book! Enjoy it while you can SmileWavy

At 64 years of age, I have a few things I don't especially like, but what bothers me the most is losing friends and family members along the way....and just plain watching them age.
Like seeing my 95 year old mother finally starting to slip up with some of her thinking and some of the things I hear her say. And my two dogs and cats....still doing well but that time will be coming. That is the hardest for me. |
