Paradise Calif. camp fire twist

I had a feeling that somebody out with a center fire rifle in a rural area thought it would be neat to shoot at a glass insulator way up on the transmission tower for the 115 thousand volt power line.

When the high voltage lines approach a steel support tower, the high voltage has to pass through without touching the metal tower.
They use glass insulators and jumper around the tower.

Easy to just fire off a round at the glass (insulator) and break the wire down or have it touch the tower (ground) and you have a high voltage line hitting the ground or just starting a molten fire.

The relay protection should clear this problem but still I thought all along it was
sabotage or some idiot shooting at the transmission connection.

The investigation is showing that a rifle shattered the insulator and they need to find
out who was walking around in that area that day with a rifle.

Outlawing morons would reduce the overcrowding issue, save on gas, save on electricity, food. Far less threads in PARF!

While I do not disagree that a Moron Reduction Plan has significant merits, the question is exactly how do you define a moron? A person shooting out glass insulators for giggles certainly qualifies in my book but this is a slippery slope.
Just sayin.

That's easy.

Anyone dumber than me is a moron. Anyone smarter than me is an a$$!

I think simplifying it to "If I agree with you, you are smart. If I disagree with you, you are a moron." would be easier to apply.

The chair would be a more appropriate demise for the spoon maroon.

Do you have a link? I don't see this in the news. All I see in recent news is that cause of fire points to failure to maintain the power line by PG&E.

There was a couple guys shot up a some big transformers with AK 47s and took out the power in a city South of San Francisco a few years ago. Took a while to get replacements. The story was not widely reported at all

The facts here are slightly different that the facts in the first post, but the general gist is the same.

Yeah, the L.A. Times said much the same but also maintained the shot up equipment idea, but not the right timing to be direct cause of the fire. Still may result in a prosecution.

Sounds like more compelling evidence for equipment failure.

I think PG&E may be trying to take the focus off themselves. You read other articles, they all describe their 18k miles of power lines and towers as very old (up to 100 years!) and in disrepair. Sure, someone may have shot at some insulators on some tower, but it wasn't the cause of the CAMP fire.

Go on Wikipedia and do a little reading on PG&E and the deadly disasters that they have had a hand in, their lobbying, tax dodging etc.
