Thinking of buying one of these RVs

https://www.generalrv.com/product-winnebago/adventurer-motor-home-class-a/33c

Trade in the five year old Coachmen and I’m sure I can get a much better price

I know you like the "Big Ass" RV. Looks comfy and has all the bells, whistles and comforts. But to each their own. Me I like something a bit more compact and stealthy. A few comforts for a night or two in a really cool location. The rest of the time I'll take a Hilton, Marriot or Holiday Inn Express for when I am feeling really smart.

Something like this works for me. AWD also.

That is very cool too!
Those little Vortec V-6s will run darn near forever! The Astro/Safari vans were tough as nails. Had many of them as service trucks through the years.

Here is my little rig on the 3/4 ton.

Yeah......I'm with Dr Coastline on the more compact version - but still wondering if towing your trailer isn't better than the all in one unit RV.

EDIT: Your setup ^^^ looks pretty good too, Bill!

They use them in overloaded brown package delivery cars in very hilly cities w/granny gears fwiw.

You got a nice versatile rig there but the back is flat.

Looks comfy Hugh! I like the Winnebago/Itasca brand and that will probably be my next rig. There is a reason there are so many different styles and sizes so you can find something for everyone. Choose the setup that best fits your lifestyle and go!

I am gathering data right now and am leaning towards something more like this. 25' so we can go anywhere and hit all the National Park campsites. Sleeps 5, 15mpg, drives like a van.

If and when I decide to do the motorhome thing. I really want to try to find a Vixen with the BMW Diesel in it. IIRC they get over 30 MPG.

My ideal rig. It rolls over the flesh-eating cockroaches with ease.

That is one reason to sell my Coachman now, I’ve got 20K on the clock now and can sell it for what I owe. I’m 65 and figure i’m Good for raving for another ten years. I’d rather has a newer one with more amenities.

The Winnebago has a pull down bunk over the driver area which is good for the 3 grandkids and a couch that turns into a queen.

Current coachman is 30’ this is 33’. Both are gas, diesel pusher is a whole lot more $ and complexity of stuff. New would have 22.5” tires, current one has 19.5”

Probably a good idea to trade into a new rig Hugh, from what I read on the RV forums 4 to 5 year opens the window to lots of repairs, equipment replacement, and the coming of leaks with their issues.
The Winny sure does come in lots of floor plans, surely you will find one that suits you needs and desires.

I'm liking that camper van choice, but would want the longer wheel based stretch version. A little space for a galley as well as the bed. Front chairs would need to rotate to face the rear.

Baz, one draw back to the trailer and tow vehicle is access to remote surf spots and room to park and get turned once there. A van really gives more nimble and rough terrain Capibility. And a more compact foot print.

That Vixen looks great for a easy to drive and park longer term cruiser. Not sure about the build quality. But if it's well built would be worth fixing up and renewing it for some years of camping and touring fun. 30 mpg. Wow!

Cheers Richard

How about an Earth Roamer:

We passed one in Colorado last year and I got all excited since it was the first one I'd seen. The wife could care less until I told her what it cost. Then she just thought it was stupid.

I agree with AB. My parents were RV people and generally did very well buying used RV's - very well meaning they didn't get killed in depreciation. My Dad was in his mid-70s and not thinking clearly on his last purchase when he bought a brand new RoadTrek on a MB chassis/motor. He paid $120K for it (loaded to gills) and we sold it 3 years later when he could no longer drive for half purchase price. It had less than 10K miles on the clock.

Prior to that he bought a low mile used Monaco diesel pusher...a big one from a dealer in MT that was already depreciated 40%. He drove that for 5 years all over North America and lost little on the resale. YMMV.

When i bought my trailer (Forest River R-Pod) The sales guy told me those diesel pushers are getting to be tough to sell. Have you thought about a fifth wheel trailer and an F250-350? I like the fact that I can park the trailer and have a vehicle to putt around in.

Enjoy, my friend.

I better see the new one at Casa De Seahawk or I'll hunt you down.
