Help me with some song lyrics

I know I'm not hearing the words right. Bad thing here, I don't know the name of the group nor the title. You're gonna have to think this one.

The clue: there is an alto sax that plays the main melody just in front of the lyrics that mimic the sound. The sax goes in staccato, da da d-e-e (longer note) do do. The words sound like da da feegaro. I'm lost.

It seems like every time I go into the HD I hear this on the store sound system.

BTW, looking this up I found that a mondegreen /ˈmɒndɪɡriːn/ is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near-homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning. Except I sometimes hear nonsense.

Gotta go listen to some Dylan.

cabmandone 12-18-2018 10:31 AM

What better way to throw someone off the trail... right? I'm going with Wham until you prove me wrong :D

More info: if you're going to try and sound out the sax riff, you need to hear the notes which I didn't try to explain and I'm not capable of writing music. But to me it would be, C,C--E-- D,C with the emphasis on the E.

cabmandone 12-18-2018 10:35 AM

Springsteen and Foreigner would be too obvious and names you'd remember if not voices you'd recognize so I'm counting them out.
Any idea about how old the tune is?

wswartzwel 12-18-2018 10:37 AM

From a You tube search on HD muzak...

"What started out as an encounter of me hearing their hauntingly beautiful songs over the speaker system has blossomed into an unforgettable start to a relationship with them. I'm hooked on this duo and their music. I've pledged to myself that as long as they appear here in Los Angeles (their hometown), I will be at every show, and I always stick around to say hello. Inara George and Greg Kurstin (The Bird and The Bee) are VERY nice and friendly."

Here are all the artists and tunes I've heard and looked up because of The Home Depot and the Muzack service:

The Bird and The Bee - "Again and Again" & "La La La"
Beth Rowley - "So Sublime"
Amp Fiddler - "Right Where You Are"
Ashley Tisdale - "Too Many Walls"
Duffy - "Stepping Stone"

That was warm. I forgot about Wham. Sort of a glam band IIRC with some mello hits.

But no teddy bear yet.

Another clue and I'm not leading anyone on here, IDK the song. The lead singer seems male and has a tenor or even alto voice. How old? Well, 80's to 90's I'd guess.

Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty ?

wswartzwel 12-18-2018 10:46 AM

Get the hell out! See you did throw me off with the Dylan reference. I was thinking 70's era stuff.

Zeke 12-18-2018 11:00 AM

OK, I see what you're thinking. I only referenced Dylan because of the many obscure lyrics. I didn't mean to suggest that some Dylan would trigger my or your mind. My bad there.

cabmandone 12-18-2018 11:05 AM

I'm just messin with ya! I was a kid at the local swimming pool when Who Can It Be Now came out would have been about 11 or 12

KFC911 12-18-2018 11:13 AM

If ya throw out a Celine Dion fa la la however...
