I.D. This lizard please
Captured about a mile west of O'Hare airport, in an office. He's very small, cannot imagine he's native to here. Looks Gecko-ish. I work in trucking, and I'm pretty sure it's not a lot lizard, but likely hitched a ride up from the south.

So, zero chance he's from around here then?
I did learn recently that there are lizards, cacti too that live at Illinois Beach State Park, which is north of here.

Mediterranean Geckos don't live in your neck of the woods. The cold will kill it. Here's where they live in the USA.

I'd let him go outside near a porch light somewhere and let him fend for himself. He'll probably hand around and eat bugs and may even make it inside a wall or something in the winter to stay warm. nature finds a way. I've heard it said that while they may not be native where they are, I believe they also don't compete or out-compete natives, so non-native, but also not really invasive.

Gecko?
Looks like several species of small lizards that we have. Could be one of them liberal lizards..

The splayed toes suggests it's a gecko, perhaps a Mediterranean house gecko (despite the regionalism, it could survive if it wasn't confined to outdoors).

The invasive lizards here aren't so cute. Florida wants you to shoot them, which people do using air rifles in residential areas.
Oh, and when there's a cold snap, the lizards fall out of the trees that night. ![]()

Mediterranean Gecko.
Like all Gecko's, you catch them from the front because as my friend that had them as pets said "they got no reverse!" |

All he had to do was ask to come back and it probably would have been fine. Seahawk was willing to try if Dean was up for it. Dean didn't have the heart for it.

What species is this one? It seems to be attracted to diesel fumes and money.

![]() I wish I could have a pic, but it happened so fast that I was unable. I was on Sanibel Island last week and a (approx)16 inch long Gecko looking lizard ran out of the thick brush and saw us and reversed and ran back. It looked and ran just like a Gecko, same green color and the body was about three inches off the ground. Do Gecko's get that big? Could it have been a baby Gator?

Some species of gecko do get pretty big.
FL also has a bunch of other tropical lizards, many of which are invasive. I suspect it wasn't a gecko but was something else.
