I like the rides on top of the Stratosphere.
Did you actual ride them? I did once and pissed in my pants. Did both the roller coaster and the Freefall thing. The Freefall thing scared me silly. Never again because I am a little afraid of heights 1000 stories up in that sharp thing.

Oh boy, I remember those days seeing them as a kid. My parents would take us once every few years so we can see Circus Circus. It was lame even when for a little boy. The pin ball machines and arcade was cool. For us, it was the 9.99 buffet and 2.99 breakfast. They are 65 buffets now. We use that as a stop over when we go see the rest of the western states. The last place to get good food until we get into Saltlake city.

Remember the days when one can just jump in and speed to Vegas after work doing 90-95 late in the evening? We did many of those trips in our early 20s just to go and goof off. Gamble a little and have a free beer and speed like hell home the next evening. I only to get caught speeding all of four times. Now, the 15 is like the harbor fwy.

Went to LV one time in 2013 to accept an industry award. I don't drink, don't gamble, and didn't want the flyers they handed out on the street
Not impressed.

Yep, those valleys in the desert where you could see 20-30 miles to the next hill... and no headlights coming your way.

One guy I know headed to Vegas with his friend driving the friend's dad's NSX, my buddy fell asleep and when he woke up they were going 150

I have a friend who is a huge blackjack player, he runs out to Vegas in his diesel pickup truck. On the way back to LA they take the dirt roads.

The dirt road part sound like fun. I have been looking at Goggle map on how to get there in those little roads.

In those days, I remember seeing cops hide behind overpass and nail you from there. No head lights needed. We were headed out from LA around 1:30. Getting near baker, the two of us were asleep expecting the driver to stay up so we can share driving at the top of Halloran summit. All three of us woke up in a dust cloud in the middle of the divider ditch. Bastard fell asleep. We never let him drive put there again.

Spent one night there in 89, as we travelled out west. It was hotter than a two peckered billy goat at 10 pm. But it was low humidity.

Lost $10 in slots and left the next morning.

I flew out of LA to Vegas just about every other weekend in the late 70s to mid 80s.

The blackjack tables were a large source of income.

Vegas today is horrible.

My son and I went there to visit his sister on her 21st b-day. My impression was that LV is a brilliant testament to human ingenuity.

They had apparently developed a nearly fool-proof method of separating people from their money. I'm so tight with my money I sqweak when I sit. But after the first day even I was blowing through $20 bills like they were nickels.

Once you figure out how exuberantly Vegas celebrates the ubiquitous tackiness of the place it can be fun.

Love going to Vegas. My wife and I have been going there every New Years for the past 5 years or so and have the best time ever. We love it. So much to do, so much to see.. Yes we blow about $5K on the trip. We don't gamble much, but we see a lot of shows, take helicopter rides, drive the exotic cars (even though I have one myself.. lol ), ride the roller coaster, etc.. and the fireworks shows on all of the rooftops on the strip are amazing!
