So many idiots want to “show” me how fast their cars are...

What the hell, man?!

Pretty much EVERY time I drive my old 202,000 mile 996 (every day, since it’s been my DD for 12-1/2 years), at least one person has to show me how fast his or her car is, and after their Demonstration of Superiority, they then refuse to let me by without thinking I want to street race.

It happens with Big horsepower cars, like the 500-600 HP AMG sedan that had to show me up yesterday and a Z06 recently, to all sorts of average 200-300 HP grocery getters, to Prius’s (all the time).

It’s annoying. It’s not my thing to race anybody.

Rant over.

Never have that problem, people just give me space when I'm filtering into lane, wave me on when I'm pulling out of junctions, I never feel bullied or intimidated

It's like I have a magic invisible coat that guides me through heavy traffic or super force field around me

The dead eye, straight ahead stare combined with a real beat up looking truck gives the impression I've got nothing to lose. maybe you need to chop in your 996 for something more practical??

I only have that once a week. Maybe they know my car is only a SC I tend to think of them as "W***er of the Week". Strange things like slowing down for a stop sign and a car comes down the middle of the road to pass me before I stop. Or passing lanes have finished and we are down to one lane but they still have to pass me.

In my Corolla, with it's warts and all, they stay well clear of me.

You know...

I said this in another thread.

They may not be trying to race you.

Horsepower can be fun, the sound of the car.

In your absence the high power car would still gas it.

I own a Z06 'Vette, I rev the engine when no one is around.

I may take off from a stop light when no one is in the lane next to me.

And if I look at your low power car, it is simply that I admire many different forms.

I just ignore those people. They want attention and if you deny them, it's punishment.

Also, street racing, (even for a block), equals serious penalties here. Like lose your fast car penalties.

When people want me to race I typically stipulate I'll do it but I get to pick the track. It usually involves the road with the most curves.

Last spring, was test driving a Z06 with the owner and had some dink in a forgettable fwd something or other dump the clutch at a stop light and though wtf? Since the night before the first local snowfall, I’ve Taken possession of one and am not looking forward to this part of ownership. The only hope for my situation (maybe) is the car is not stock and definitely does not idle or run with any sort of subtlety.

Wow Scott, you racked up 200,000 miles on that already? I remember meeting you on those Ortega runs. You mentioned only having 60,000 on it. Any issues over all those miles?

I daily a Cayman S now, luckily no one has shown me their high HP car so far. If they did, it usually goes unnoticed due to my intense conversation with my girl friends via text, while eating a burger and drinking a glass red wine with the other hand. I did have an idiot speed match a slower car on a blvd doing 30 on purpose. I was driving my 930 and noticed him kept looking into his side mirror. I much rather he show off all his HP so he can be gone.

About 10-12 years ago, we were out for a drive in the hills with a small small group out of TRE. We stop to have a cup of coffee (all were Porsches, about 10 of us) this person in his Honda dumped his clutch in the parking lot right in front of us and and took off. Oh yeah, he showed us.

What annoys me is the air planes flying over head faster than my car.

What are they trying to prove?

I mean, the piston guys can be annoying at over a hundred miles an hour.

But then those jet jerks trying to prove something by flying over head at several hundred miles an hour.

Why are these idiots trying to show how fast they are?

Heck, the jets try to race my house when they fly over.

Race a house? What is the point?

I used to get it some in my old ‘88 911. Then I got it in my miata, yeah, 133hp, 4 cyl. I get it some still in my boxster. I just got some today from a honda civic, but it was a late model Civic Si or R which I think may be pretty speedy.

I lose to just about everything in my RAM 6.7l... However, I have had good luck against Hondas lately. Even with a 500 lbs welder in the bed.
