Medical marijuana or prescription drugs?
What would be your choice?
One of our local news stations did a story that more seniors are turning to MM instead of prescription drugs. It is not the potheads either. These are some regular old folks like neighbors we have. One guy is a 70ish Marine who is also a martial arts instructor. He prefers MM to help with his aches and pains and PTSD from Vietnam. It was interesting that the MM prices were much more affordable than scrip drugs. I'd be willing to give it a try. Never got into it as a teen because it never had that much of an effect on me.

Although I tried lots of things back in the '60s & '70s, I could never develop any real interest in it. I think there are real applications for MM. So if it is proven to be more effective in some cases than prescription meds, I'd go for it.

Can medical maryjane lower my blood sugar? Doubtful. How about thinning my blood to prevent AFIB clots? Again, probably not.
Aches & pains? If only those were my sole medical problem... Hey, you like getting stoned, go for it...but don't try to tell me it's medicine. (edit) Unlike Clinton..yes, there was a time in my past when I inhaled. It's legal here now. I drive past pot shops on my treks to my favorite pool hall. I don't stop.

If you're a senior citizen and able to understand what you're doing, fine...even better if it actually does that which you believe it to be.

I would try it (again), but this time, I wouldn't smoke it. They have edibles, and CBD oils that eliminate the smell, and mess, while the oils are lacking the THC which makes you high, and get the munchies.

We hired a young man to cover any classified work for us so I no longer need nor hold a security clearance. A good friend of mine is dying of Crones and has other assorted severe pain issues. He has provided me with a few different CBD lotions for my arthritis and they work great. It could be the ol' placebo effect but I do not think so. I hate taking pain medications so I don't. The CBDs provide relief. I now have a MM card of my own for Maryland. I don't plan on smoking, vaping, etc.

I have neuro pain from a spinal cord injury. I've used various gaba drugs (gabapentin, lyrica) and cymbalta. All help, but nothing takes the edge off the discomfort like a little mj. I'm not talking about being wasted, just ease the edge. CBD is good, but the psychoactive component is a plus for my deal.

The medical evidence and testimonials are vast, I would say much better than drugs with all the side effects or addition possibilities.
Here it’s all legal now so you don’t even need the “medical” kind...

If you are suffering, I say why not. Escpecially if you are retired and no longer have to worry about company policy.
Worth noting that most medical users don’t smoke through a bong Cheech and Chong style. There are lots of other ways to injest THC. I think KS just legalized for medical use which I’m all for, and I have zero skin in the game. Not something that ever did it for me from a recreational perspective.

I have terrible back pain due to 2 ruptured disks. I hate taking narcotics of any kind, so generally I tough it out with ibuprofen and try and keep moving and keep my core strength up.
I know MJ helps the situation, but I am very wary of getting an MJ card because of my employment situation. I work for a large bank, and until I get clear signaling from the company that medical MJ is not going to cost me my job, I'm afraid its not an option.

I use CBD cream + heat for the arthritis in my hands. I take ibuprophen if the pain gets really bad, but that stuff is like barbed wire in my stomach, so I keep it to a minimum.

Most older peeps I know taking MM ted to use it at night to ease pain and help them sleep. One friend (disc issues) was taking several percocet daily, now with MM he's down to one a day. Another taking heavy anti-anxiety meds has cut out all but one med.
Is MM a cure all? Of course not, show me a single drug that is. If all it does is reduce use of opioids for pain control that alone is a win. One thing good about Canada's new pot laws is true unbiased medical research into MM has started.

In my experience it is as helpful as anything else for peripheral neuropathy, with a much better side effect profile. Also works well for nausea.

Yup, this is what is needed. Not evangelical stoners claiming a cure all, not new age medicine claiming essential oils and such, but we need actual real medial research, unbiased. FWIW I know of several people who are on the legal thing here in Florida and for one of them it is better for daily life than the opoids, and for the other it has removed all of her Chron's symptoms for over a year. But I also know the plural of anecdote is not data. |

CBD does nothing for my peripheral neuropathy and the blend of THC/CBD is frequently too strong for me. So I'm stuck with low dosage oxy.

Watching the withdrawal was something I wish I had never seen. I'll be with him tomorrow for a few hours. I did my own research: whatever get you through the night without prescription medicine works for me.
