Internet Sales Tax Is Here

South Dakota vs Wayfair.

Now 32 states so far have online retailers collect sales tax for them. Add in shipping and suddenly a good deal turns into a bad deal.

Auction houses on online spoon sales charge up to 26% of hammer price as a commission plus your states sales tax and shipping. Auction houses always charge a little vig to cover the cost of providing online bidding services which they dont charge in person bidders. Which gives advantage to the in person bidders..who would be charged sales tax if not a dealer. Somehow I think things ain't gona be the same anymore for these guys.

In NV a spoon being received by a FFL charges sales tax plus background check fees. Now anything purchased online gets taxed.

I just got nicked on the purchase of a Dillion 550b wt a set of dies..hammer was 275 with fees and tax it comes to 331 plus shipping from ny..spell this as being heavy.

My butt hurts already...

I have said it before govt is getting desperate for money and are going to get it from you one way or another. I am lucky cause my buying days are pretty much done.

VAT tax has always applied here on internet sales in the EU.. so quite surprised it took em so long in the US of A

Wether or not it's sold online or in a shop, really makes no difference in the fact that a company has something in it's inventory, and suddenly it's sold to a private person.
So I really dont onderstand how the hell they managed to last that long without charging sales tax on the internet??

Imagine the nightmare it is going to be for these online retailers to file quarterly sales tax reports for all 50 states. Not to mention they need to apply the proper percentage for each state per sale. They will most likely have to also raise prices on everything due to the increased amount of administrative work involved.
But this could be a good thing for small brick and mortar retailers that could not compete with on line prices

Most states have a "use tax", so it is in the tax code to tax these transactions.

The problem is the state has no way of tracking unless other states decide to share the information.

It is voluntary for you to add up your online purchases and pay taxes on them.

A little problem I found is that state tax day, and when the sales tax is due were two different dates. I was paying late fees/penalties from my voluntary reporting.

What is happening is states are figuring out ways to coerce other states and businesses into giving up the information.

The tax applied, but the method of finding out who owed what is where the difficulty was.

in europe, the local sales tax for the seller applies
unless the seller does more then a certain amount of sales a year, then he has to appy the sales tax of the buyers country..

normally it's around 35000 euro a year for the seller
except uk, they got a much higher limit

With the staggeringly high number of possible combinations of municipal tax structures out there, this will be a tremendous burden on small companies, almost all of which are very likely ill-equipped, from a software standpoint, to deal with this.

The "Baaaaaaw" is singular and means you personally....if it were "Baaaaaah" that would mean plural and would mean everyone gets to take it like a woman.

Now ..."Baaaaaaw baaaa Beotch" Is Eubonics for Bend over beotch...

I am for the local little guy. With the current system the local guy starts out 10% behind the Amazons of the world.

Sales tax for all or no sales tax for all. Either is fine with me. Though the elimination of the sales tax would be problematic.

Correct me if I'm wrong but individuals do not have to charge sales tax on eBay, just businesses, right?

I did get popped with sales tax on a car parts purchase recently. I was sure the drop shipper was based in Ohio, which has always been the norm where ship from is my state.

Not so. It was NJ if I remember.

The buyer is supposed to file and pay a USE TAX on all the little purchases he makes.

Internet Sales Tax Is Here

Internet sales tax is desperately needed.

And should be remitted to the state the seller operates in.

If both seller and buyer are in the same state yes...

But inter state..is coming...

They are desperate to fund the govt and will be needing to collect every cent that they can..

So much fo big govt and socialism...but think of the children, Climate change, the poor and HC....you wouldn' want to see no children starve and be illiterate now would you?

Amazon has been doing it since the year started. At the beginning, I wasn't getting taxed on purchases, now it is the norm. The big thing is the states collecting on the sales.

I don't like paying taxes any more than the next person but it is the right thing to do. If dodging taxes reduces the profitability then more people will shop locally and support the local economy. Maybe Sears would be in better shape if...

Some may say "what about the poor guy who's business won't make it unless his customers can dodge paying what they owe?" Well, its not like we didn't see this coming. We all know that the govt is going to shut down tax loopholes to keep the cash rolling in so he made a bad business decision and lost. Happens all the time to brick and mortar small businesses that got put out by online shopping.

Yes, our taxes are not high enough. Clearly, with 22M illegals to feed, house, provide medical care we need more money from the working class.

22T Federal debt and no way the illegal unskilled uneducated work force (if they work) will pay taxes income taxes. But they do cost the US 280B a year!

Better tax and fee the internet and more.

This is sarcasm.
