It could be worse.
They could be running it all on bluemix.

IBM threw a lot of devs at eclipse back in the early 00s. Back when they were trying to get java to run as fast as cobol on the MF.

If they were running it all on bluemix, they would not have to worry about syncing passwords, it would all be IBMID.
and IBM Cloud is full of native open source tools with more coming (just bought RedHat). OP may find accelerating adoption of cloud may be just what is needed.
