Nice bike! I sold my 2013 HP4 last summer. Such a machine! Had a blast with it and Im sure the new S1000RR will be amazing. But Im pretty much done with bikes. Had 4, now down to two. And they are for sale as well. Happy trails!

Funny you mention this, I have a 17' Ducati Multistrada and 10' BMW F800GS gathering dust in the garage. I really only use the Duc on multi-day trips. The F800 just seems to move around the garage.

When weather permits, all I can think about is the RR. I tend to only ride by myself on it so its a bit unsociable.

I plan to race this upcoming season. Slippery slope...

I have done the California Superbike School the past 4 seasons, class 1 through 4, at New Jersey Motorsports Park. I have had the pleasure of riding 15 through 18 S1000RR each consecutive year. Really amazing bike.

At 54 years old I am not good enough to even tax anywhere near the limits of the bike. Also being 54, I am not going to be progressing to the level where I tax them so...

Do I want the new S1000RR....oh hell yea, do I need it? Noooo

My 170 hp 2015 Tuono is just fine for the street, and no I don't tax the limits of that bike either.

I signed up for CSS again this spring.

Me too. I did CSS classes 1 & 2 last spring at Laguna. Going to do 3 & 4 this coming spring. Like you, being in my 50's means I'll never max out an RR. I'm a legend in my own mind.

LOL

I am wicked fast and smooth, just ask me! Hope CSS is upgrading to the 2020 model because the current S1000RR is clearly holding back my lap times.

I am taking Level 4 again this May. In level 4 you get to work on anything you like with your coach. I wan't him to follow me a couple laps and then tell me what I need to work on to get my lap time below 1:50 seconds. I got to sub 2 minutes last season.

At the Laguna school last year, there was a guy who has been 70 times! Older dude, probably late 60's who was super smooth.

I would like to work on my body position next time around. I think it is pretty good but it has been described by others as a rider in need of some chiropractic help...

Body position has been a constant project for me. At 54 and going 6'3" and 215 lbs its not like I can whip around on the tiny bike. That, and I am missing ligaments in both shoulders, have one herniated disc, two bulging discs, had surgery on both elbows and on and on.

Funny, I just got an email from CSS an hour ago telling me about additional dates at Leguna.

Just got that email as well. Going to book Laguna again. Sold it to the wife as a safety class :D

Love to join you but its clear across the country. I'd like to go to class at VIR later in the season.

jorian 01-08-2019 02:05 PM

It is a long haul for you. VIR looks like a great track too.

I'm in the PNW and will ride my Multistrada down the coast to Laguna and stay with a buddy in SFO on my way home.

trader220 01-08-2019 02:25 PM

I have had the car out on VIR but not a bike. Its a spectacular place. NJMP is decent but its nothing special, I just happen to know every part of the track really well. VIR is a 6 to 7 hour ride (or drive) so its not single day even. Its not even a nice ride, its mostly just I95 south. I live about 50 or 60 miles from NJMP.

I'd kill to ride down the west coast and then hit the track....lucky you.

jorian 01-08-2019 03:00 PM

I've done the coast about 30 times in my life and it never fails to deliver. I try to avoid the I-5 at all costs and always look for a new route. South of Olympia WA through Oregon and into NorCal is an amazing place to ride and drive.
