2020 s1000rr
BMW has a new halo bike. The current rig has been around since 2010 largely unchanged. The long-awaited 2020 has some big shoes to fill. More power, less bulk lower C of G, better ergos etc...
Duc/BMW dealership called me today to tell me that the new bikes will be landing in June and to ask what spec I'd like on my bike. I asked for the full load: Motorsport colour scheme Dynamic Package - latest gen DDC, heated grips & cruise control Race Package - Traction, Wheelie & Launch control, pit lane limiter etc. M Package - includes Carbon wheels (way cool) June seems like a long way off but we had 4.3" of rain (!) here today so it's not like I'm missing anything... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1546576253.jpg Anyone looking for a low mile, much-loved 2014 s1000rr? |

This guy tests it on the street. Flips the wrist and it's doing a buck three fiddy. Says it's smoooth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJELlKasQNA |
There is a guy on the s1000rr forum who tours regularly on his RR. He is 76 years old. Bob? 19 motorcycles and none of em are a RR? I get out your way in the summer often. Maybe a spin around the block is what you need.
Power is up weight is down. 205 HP & 84 TQ. About 20 LBS lighter with the carbon wheels and loss of passenger pegs. |
Oh man, it's going to be awesome! Please send some pics when you get your bike in!

A good plan. Eastern WA is a great place to ride. On and off-road.

California Superbike School runs em for their programs. Took their Laguna Seca school in April and it scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Bought the 2014 when I returned home and the other bikes have been collecting dust since. Never thought I'd be a crotch rocket guy but here we are a year on and my M/C tastes have changed. Here's a pic of the 2014. I feel the same way about this bike as I did when I bought my first 911.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1546660890.jpg |
Funny I was thinking about the new 1000RR as well. Although I had been riding sport bikes for awhile and had gone to the superbike school back when they were riding Kawasakis. I went again when they switched to BMW and knew that was my next sport bike.
The HP4 I ordered new and is street only. The motorsports colored bike is my track bike. Both bikes have been a total blast. I really afraid to ride the new one. (But I will) I know I'll be wanting a new bike afterwards http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1546751413.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1546751413.jpg |
I have a measly 2015 SKR and it's like a demon on my shoulder, always telling me to do bad things. I love it, but cannot understand what else BMW can do in this area to improve things. How much faster a bike can a human really control and realistically use on the street? It's very comfortable for long rides too. Riding out to SoCal in a few weeks for NAMM. I got my bike dirt cheap from a guy in Pasadena, made it back to Phoenix in 4.5 hours with three stops for gas.

I kinda agree Rick. Unless your tracking it, how fast can you go. AND even then most people here still can't extract everything out of the bike....probably one of the reasons I still like riding my 90hp Ducati. I feel like I'm the man, im in charge. I get off the other two bikes and I always feel like they're shrugging their shoulders and saying "That's all you got." I'm finding as I get older, I'm actually pretty satisfied with performance of lower horsepower bikes...But I'm still gonna go ride the new RR. :) |

I got my race license last summer but am unsure if that is going to be better/more fun that just doing track days. Not sure I can afford the time commitment of a race series. Summers up here are precious and I have other interests as well. If I don't buy a race bike by the time summer rolls around I may convert my current 14' RR to comply with local track regs (safety wire, belly pan, fairings, etc.) |

I've thrown a leg over a few much newer, faster, and capable bikes in the decade that has passed since buying my Super Sport. Every time I do so, all it serves to do is confirm that I'm just not rider enough for anything more than what I've got in that old Duc. I know you, and a few others here can take advantage of these newer hyper bikes, and I admire you for it. Stay safe and have fun - I'll just have to watch from afar. |

I'm in your camp: doubt I'll ever wring out 75% of the performance of the RR. Its capable way beyond my skill. I can't deny the draw of having the latest and greatest. |

I keep thinking about going back to a GS or or something more civilized, but it'd be hard to give up that insane acceleration. I never complained about my GSs being too slow. But once I started down the K-bike route, there was no going back to a slower bike. |

I've done a ton of track days over the years and a couple of races when I went to race school. But I'm like you. I just don't have time for that type of commitment and I kinda got over the racing bug racing my car with POC several years ago. In fact I was only able to get to the track 4 times last year. Ironically I was signed up for a thunderhill event this weekend that got cancelled last minute due to low attendance.. As much as I love the sport bikes, it's funny me and my core riding buddies have been doing alot more adventure riding type stuff in the last year or so. I had actually decided to sell the track bike but then did 2 track days the weekend after Thanksgiving and decided ok maybe not yet.... Hey Jeff, thanks and to you as well... ya know we both have 90hp Ducs and BRPs. Eventually I will add a Road Glide to the stable and then I'm done. |
