I once had a recurring dream where I was standing along the side of a runway watching a plane take off. The plane was usually a small one and was always traveling from left to right across my field of vision as it lifted off. Then, just as it starts to gain some altitude, it suddenly drops out of the sky and crashes into the runway directly in line with where I'm standing. The dream ends right there.

One day back in the real world, I'm at an airshow watching some aerobatic flying demos. People are standing along the entire length of the runway watching the show and I'm somewhere past the middle of this long, stretched-out crowd as the next plane starts to gather speed for takeoff. It's coming from my left as it heads toward where I'm standing and starts to pull up. The pilot apparently tried to climb too steeply, stalled at about 300' and fell like a rock. He crashed back onto the runway...directly in line with where I'm standing...just like I'd 'seen' so many times before! Friends there with me said I looked like a deer-in-the-headlights as I told them about my premonition.

I never had the dream again after that day...

For me. I place myself in that subconscious landscape and by walking through that landscape I can figure out what is going on...from what the imagery and action sequence implies. In other words I consciously take myself into that subterranean world and take a look around..

Classical Freudian Psychoanalysis and Dream Interpretation has pretty much been put somewhere between Astrology and Voodoo. Plus, I’m pretty sure Freud never uttered the word ‘subconscious’. There is only conscious and unconscious, the realm of unconsciousness being populated by the Id, Ego and Superego which are sort of at war with each other creating guilt, penis envy, and allot of money for therapists.

Jungian psychology does have some theoretical validity though, mostly because we all share very, very similar DNA structures going back into the eons of human history.

My theory is that sleep is a sort of daily (nightly) mechanism to purge one’s brain of the millions and millions of excess memory traces a healthy brain creates with every single moment of consciousness. That purge results in dreams; sort of like brain poop, if you will.

Recurrent dreams are sort of stuck, their traces don’t get purged, eventually being permanently lodged and becoming memory traces that we end up consciously remembering.

Or, aliens from another dimension talk to us during sleep.

Not quite Sherlock. Only 10% of your brain function lies in the realm of consciousness. The rest like an iceberg functions below the conscious level. Constant computing bodily functions and how to react to various situations that you find yourself in.

The language of the subconscious lies in imagery or audio. Where do you think creativity comes from. The imagination is nothing but imagery brought up the elevator from the subconscious. By your way of thinking Einstein's Theory of Relativity was brain poop. As he was doing something completely unrelated to thinking about the problem when he had the moment of epiphany.

Then there is neural plasticity where science has found that cognitive talk therapy changes brain wiring over time. Your thinking is so so late 20Th century..

Dreams are the remembering of the subconscious process of solving problems or dilemmas. Even rembering serves the subconscious purposes of resolving or figuring out life's situations. Sometimes dreams are reviewing recent events in your life trying to make sense of them and putting them into context.

Brain function whether conscious or subconscious is part of the whole that makes up who you are. It is one unit. Even computer hardware is a rudimentary copy of our brain and the software a copy of brain routing. After all men had to use their imaginations in realizing these machines and what better than copy something that already works.

Dreamed was flying a hang glider over a forested area. Saw a tiger and pointed at it. It jumped up and bit the hand I was pointing with. immediately woke up and my hand was asleep tingling. Evidently had been laying on my hand.

Another time dreamed was in a quaint sea side community. The houses were brightly colored cottages with white picket fences but the streets all had bar ditches instead of curbs. Was driving a yellow VW Beetle and police were chasing me. Don't know why. To evade the police I jumped out of the sun roof of the VW so they would follow the VW and not me. Landed in the bar ditch and hurt my ankle. Woke up immediately and had a sprained ankle I didn't have when I went to sleep.

Had a recurring dream that would wake to someone breaking into my house. Couldn't move or make a sound, then would wake up in a sweat. Bought a pistol and did some target practice. Then dreamt the devil was chasing me. Ran and hid by the devils cave entrance. Devil showed up and I shot him. Never had either of those dreams again.

I dream hard whenever i get good sleep, if i don't dream it means i won't be rested.
I can usually remember it all and it can be about all sorts of weird stuff.

when i quit smoking for several years after , I would sometimes dream that i notice myself standing around with a cigaret, and all of the sudden it dawns on me
NOOOO I RELAPSED, HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID

Then i wake up going, phew.. close call

Those smoking dreams stopped a good 5 years ago, i'll be 9 years off the ciggies now

If i don't sleep well, usually it's to do with back pain.
and when i do notice to much of a sleep deficit, i might drop a Dramatol 50 mg..
and i suspect it's just catching up on missed dreams, but the dreams are wild when i do that.
But i'll be very rested in the morning.

Some of you have very strange dreams.

Tabby,

We’re talking about different things.

In the end Kachi you are an empty shell..

Sad, so sad that you are unable to look beyond your own small world tabs.

I've long noticed a pattern change in my dreams due to the weather.

The fact that I live in a state with four seasons and you live in a state with none might explain your lack of experiences in this area.

If you are so smart, then why didn't you figure that one out on your own?

The writing method I use and the work that I do rely on a level of accountability that either you have never been exposed to or simply failed to achieve yourself.

I can tell that you never had to write a lab report, building code review or other document that wasn't some bias filled personal opinion piece detached from reality by the way you ramble on incessantly in this forum.

I will not cite an example of your nonsensical rambling to support my statement as your post has already provided one such example.

A empty shell I am not dream on, if anything I am a shell with the filling ingredients listed, tested and verified.

Back to dreams; too many cigars last night watching back to back NFL playoff games that were incredible. Between the minus eight degree night (travel advisory) and my stomach rolling from too much nicotine I had some extra weird dreams.

Prolly better that I CRS. I "think" my dreams are cool however....but circumstantial evidence suggests they don't have happy endings either...

How do ya interpret total disrecall Tabby?

Sorry but this one's about bodily functions....

Last week I had a "very vivid" dream that I was taking probably the biggest $chitt of my life....you know, fill up the bowl and then some! Well, about a half hour later I had to get up to....you guessed it....take a big $chitt!

My dream was essentially my body subconsciously saying..."Dude! Get up cause you need to take a dump!"

You asked!

:p

I have similar ones, except in them I find myself trying to find a place to pee- floor drain, sink, behind a hedge, etc. some real weird situations, only had one close one were after I woke I almost didn’t make it to the bathroom.

Lately they have become far more vivid and seem to have some ties to one another.

Always one object that stands out in color. A bright blue book or, like last night, a bright red car.
I am usually looking for something. My home, meeting place, or a vehicle.
i am usually only attired in my tidy whities. No one seems to notice or care.

Last night's went like this.

i am eating a meal, all that is left on the plate are a big pile of mashed potatoes and gravy and a double helping of turkey and noodles. I was slurping up the noodles and I can still remember how great they tasted and how much I was eating. Saved the tators for last. I then went to bed. In my tidy whities.

In a start I wake up (dream wake up, not real wake up) and find myself in my car. Still in my undies. The street where I am parked is unfamiliar It seems to about dawn, low light. Next to my car is a bright red Jeep. It glows. It is mine in the dream. (I have had one in the past) I can't figure out how I am going to be able to get both cars home. On the other side of my car is a push mower. I get out and fold the handle down (very detailed latch) and place mower in back seat of car. It is a 4 door of undetermined make. As I drive home I wake up (real life wake up)...

whacha think. Can you top that?

Means your wife is secretly playing episodes of Capt. Underpants to you in your sleep...

I had a good one last night.

Me and Gina Gershon in a dimly lit room. She puts on "Sour Girl" by STP and the love making begins.....

Last night I dreamed the alarm clock had sounded and I had turned it off and fell back asleep. Then I woke up suddenly thinking I was late for work. I'm never late for anything, I hate the idea of being late.
So I jumped up in a panic and once I got my wits about me, asked myself "self, why does clock said 11:28 ............ PM?"

Took a long time to get back to sleep.

My dreams can be very intense. I usually dream in full color and in 3D. I've created entire "movies" in my dreams. I have a cute comedy that takes place in Paris that I really should write up. Another dream took place on the seventh layer of hell, with the Terminator chasing me, that I couldn't escape; that one was a real biitch. I've had the falling and landing dream, but not waking up before the impact as most people do. Certain "male-oriented" dreams have been phenomenal. ...

Last nights was interesting. I was at my childhood home, in the country, in my mid-twenties, hanging out with a few people (whoever). We were near the road. A muscle car goes ripping by at triple digits, but looses control and crashes into the ditch. The car manages to right itself and keeps going. It crashes into the neighbor's barn and just demolishes it, chewing up the bottom portions. Tire smoke and wood beams are flying everywhere. The roar of the engine. The car gets free, all smashed to hell, but now starts coming back towards us, full on. It barrel rolls again as it's wheels are all bent, and finally stops. We call the cops and start walking towards the car. (Now it gets weird). It's a toy car, like a large Tonka. A nice fat, two-headed snake starts crawling out and starts chasing some in the group. But it dies for some reason. It's head pops off and now it's a two-headed chipmunk, and it wants to bite my ankle something fierce. Then I woke up. ...
