2 murders in Gardnerville

There's been 2 middle aged women murdered in Gardnerville over the week end. I spoke to a Douglas county sheriff at the gym tonight about it and he didn't give much information but, said I should lock my doors. I got a phone call from one of my neighbors (a middle aged woman)who was a bit scarfed and asked me for a gun for protection. So, I'm a bird hunter and took a 12 gauge to her house this evening. She has experience shooting shotguns, her family are hunters.I instructed her on gun safety, and left her with the gun.

I know that it's probably like 1/100,000 that anything will happen to her, but, she wanted the gun to feel secure until law enforcement catches the person(man).

Hopefully' this is a good reason for legally keeping a gun to defend yourself.

I live in an upscale community, and have never locked my doors.

When I grew up (Leave it to Beaver era) I never once carried a key to our house. Only when I moved away from home and into a really crappy $95 per month apartment did I ever carry a key to my place.

Now we live in a nice area, and we have on occasion (the wife) left the door unlocked. No issues. She even left the garage door up all overnight or all day while she is out. That is one reason I added the garage doors to our alarm system. I can check the garage doors and make sure they are closed. I am not paranoid, but I am not just going to leave my garage full of tools open to anyone.

The biggest question is does she really believe she could shoot someone if the situation arose? The last thing you want is someone to take it from her and kill her or someone else with it.

I have no doubt, if someone comes into my house and my wife in in the bedroom with me, they better have lots of blue lights flashing outside and be yelling Police!, or they will be shot.

YMMV but that seems very risky to me. Would NV hold you complicit if she were to shoot someone by mistake? Are you exposed to civil charges for wrongful death?

Two more murders. This time 2 elderly people were killed in Reno. The Washoe county sheriff department came on the radio while on my way home from work. They think the murders might be connected to the Douglas county homosides.

Also, the radio station mentioned that there's been some murders in Eldorado county that might be connected. That would bring the total to 8.

Wow crazy stuff! If connected this might end up on national news. Are these robberies?

The police aren't giving much information. The girl I gave a gun said that the victims in Gardnerville were stabbed. But, the sheriff said on the radio said a fire arm was used on the Gardnerville victims. He didn't say what the cause of death was for the South Reno victims. But, said they might be connected.

The police have a suspect in the Carson City jail and the have enough evidence to charge the illegal with 4 murders. Who would've suspected an illegal. The suspect was only 19 and on immigration hold. Tips to police led to place the suspect under survalance.

Wonder how many like him are roaming the country. I know most Mexicans are good people. But, there are enough bad to limit the flow.

I've brought this up before but an old lady in the next town over back in 1998 blew the head clean OFF an illegal preying on elderly women by entering through sliding glass doors or windows. The law couldn't catch him for years.

You'd be foolish not to hold an ace card if you are physically weaker than those who'd wish you harm...

OP did the right thing...

OP did the right thing...

Yes, I gave a 12 gauge shot gun to the lady next door. Don't hesitate, shoot. I have a few guns in my house but, no ammunition, been to busy to hunt for a few years. Shot the last of my shot gun and 300 magnum rounds a couple years ago at the range with a couple of buddies. Thinking about getting a license and duck stamp for next fall, though.
