If you are not French, you will be sneered at unless you have the magic phrase:
"American Express"

Wow, I have the power to run off someone?
Based on your response, you must be French.

Lighten up Francis.
I made a humorous comment about the topic and you come in and slam me because you got offended for someone else (a long time ago and a different topic). Yes I called out his poor little rich boy first world problems. This is a forum of opinions.

BTW: one of Motion's last posts was a cat fight with someone else and I was no where around. Interestingly enough, "F*Off" was in that post too. Go read it.

Edit: gave you 5 stars for being classy.

Might want to check on things being open. With the yellow vest protests, places like the Louvre have been closed on the weekends.

Great Hotel is located on a foot traffic only street. When you step out the front you are surrounded by a wine store, a bakery and a butcher. It is wonderful to pick up a pastry on the way out and on the way in. There is a metro station on the corner and the Eiffel Tower is just a short 5 minute walk.

Good luck on the trip.

Well, the French do have a reputation for their attitude and everyone knows that as a rule, pompous Americans are tolerated in other countries because they bring in $. I thought it was a humorous way of connecting the two. I guess if you are French you might not see it that way so if a mea culpa is needed I apologize.

Going to make jokes about surrender monkeys next and French tanks having 1 forward gear and six reverse? Those are great. How about we have a go another group like Black women or foreigners? Maybe people who don’t think the same as you? Back to PARF dude.

People in PPOT sneer at different folks, groups, actions, all the time. If you read my most recent post you'll see how I felt it was common.
Ocean Ramsey - the next Tim Treadwell?
Peter has to fly coach!
Another d'bag needs two parking spaces.
People don’t drink coffee anymore
People bash Floridians, Californians, Christians, other countries. I suspect that the OP is biased because I called out his buddy for some things. After that nothing I do is going to be acceptable.

Please hear me: I am genuinely am confused what made my post so offensive. If I offend someone without meaning to do so, I will apologize (as I've already done). Please explain what was offensive so I can understand and not do it again.

If you just want to be mad at me I can't help that. I just want to play by the same rules as all the rest.

Off to Portugal via Madrid.

We are passing on Paris this year.

Been there many times and it is still one of my Favorite Cities.

Albeit it has lost some of its charm in the last 10 years.

Open borders have caused parts of Paris to become third world like cities with homeless and tents lining the streets.

Good news is the world is a big beautiful place with lots of parts to still explore.

Its tough to understand why people dog pile on you when you don't understand the rules of behavior. Let me help you. The rules that the majority of people try to use is to refrain from making baseless stereotypical comments about others - The French sneering - this would be you stating that all French are unpleasant snobs. Not sure how much time you've spent there but most French people are not sneering snobs. They are just normal folk trying to get by. You implied that their behavior is influenced by the great "American Express" credit card. Really? The French suddenly turn from snobs to fawning sycophants at the sight of a credit card? If I was French I would be offended by what said.

I think the rules that I would hope your folks taught you and that you teach your kids is to not stereotype. Take people as you find them. Understand that one ******* does not make a nation, race, whatever. Treat people with respect. Pretty simple rules actually.

OK, I see where you are coming from. Stereotypes can be bad but I guess I have a thicker skin. I'm from NYC so when people say New Yorkers are rude I just laugh it off. They can seem that way because they are in a rush and impacted by population density which creates a more guarded attitude. The French have had a reputation for being aloof. As far as the Amex card-it is often complained that people in other countries have to put up with Americans (crass and expect everything to be Americanized - oh wait, stereotype) because they are tourists who put money into the economy. In that sense, it is more of a slam on us than them. So, let me say I apologize to my fellow French pelicans. To Shaun at Tru6 please allow me to jokingly say

Just back from that very excursion. Did not have one bad glass of wine in Portugal. Loved the place.

Actually, yes it was. Parisians are notorious for being rude, that is what made that comment amusing.

I know a LOT of people who have experienced this first hand, it is a thing, not so much a La Provence. Would not dissuade me at all, because I speak enough French to be rude right back to them in their own lingo.

I don't think a weekend is enough time Shaun. Pick up a few phrases and you will do fine. Pick up a French woman early in the trip and things will be better than fine.

30 years ago if you didnt attempt to speak a little French in a nice restaurant you would get an attitude.

Today, not a problem. Smile, learn a few key phrases and have fun. Dont be a loud and try to blend in, not stand out.

While Paris has changed, and not for the better, once you learn where not to go and when, its still a magically city.

Were off the Paris and beyond this spring.

Cant wait.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but did not chose to be offended by your comments. But I’ve heard that same or similar “joke” so many times I just dont find it funny anymore. I like a good joke at someone else’s expense as long as it’s original or creative in some way.

I very innocently offended a French dude once. He was being friendly, ask me how I found Paris. I said, “It was easy, I got on a plane in Cincinnati and when I got off, there I was.” Really pissed him off.
Ironically, we were in an Irish pub in Cascais, Portugal at the time.

Learning basic French on Babbel now. Challenging. Glad I'm starting now vs. a few days before.
