Still, the building of that sandbox was significantly aided by the goodwill and talented contributions of forum contributors. Pelican now owns what is likely the largest repository of Porsche tutorials in the world. I wonder if those generous and prolific early contributors expected the new level of commercialism in the forum.

It seems to me that forum contributions have been offered on something of an "open source" basis. Enthusiasts giving free advice to other enthusiasts (or anyone else who might benefit). Going forward, is there any security that the advice of current contributors will be available on that basis? Does that raise a question as to whether the forum belongs on something other than a private server?

It's Pelican's sandbox, but I think any interference in the forum is bad business. Nothing said or recommended here is going to undermine Pelican. Shills for other vendors are annoying and ignored. Helpful references to speciality suppliers is, simply, helpful. Interfering with those is just Pelican being annoying. And in some cases, has probably caused forum members to start ignoring Pelican.

Food for thought.

Literally none of this makes sense. Pelican was selling car parts before they had a forum... it’s always been crystal clear what goal 1 of Pelican was, and it wasn’t as a forum. It’s been a few years since I read the terms and conditions of being a forum, but I have a suspicion that there is a wavier of ownership of anything that is posted here. It’s the internet, and this place is owned by a corporation, I don’t think anyone in there right mind would expect anything other than what is happening. I’ve spent time on lots of other forums, and this place is wayyy better than most in terms of what is and isn’t allowed.

Right?

PARF.

They could, (and some would argue they should), do away with that tomorrow and it still would not be censorship.

When Pelican starts cross referencing your post count with your purchase count and restricts your use of the board cause you have not spent enough to justify keeping you as a (free) member then I think you'll have something to complain about.

Till then enjoy the board and be respectful of our host.

The posts - and activity - drive ad revenue.
I doubt anyone prolific is in danger unless they are also offensive. Even then they just come back with a very similar alias and continue the behavior.

I wish they would sensor people posting non tech stuff in the tech section.

some guy just posted a pic of his receipt that still had waynes name on the bottom.

They are censoring general commentary now.
I gave some critical feedback about some guy's P-Car podcast,
and it was all scrubbed, since I was critical.

Because it falls under Advertising for another company.

Except that when logged in, required to post, you are only shown one ad because Wayne did not want to muck up the experience for us (as so many other boards that are pure ad gen revenue based do)

The current ad revenue model exists to defray infrastructure costs more so than to generate revenue.

Besides, most of us run ad blockers which the site is not enabled to detect and pop up a a nag to disable which would not be the case if ad revenue were a priority.

Personally, I have my ad blocker turned off for Pelican because the ads are not intrusive and I think it's fair for both of us.

That's absurd. You critiqued his podcast without even listening to it. That's not feedback... it's noise.

First, I was commenting on his lazy work ethic, and lack of editing pointed out by others, in context of commenting on the professional podcast industry as a whole. The point is, it was scrubbed. Talk about missing the point.

Perhaps Pelican Parts should remember the 1947 movie "Miracle On 34Th Street" where Santa would recommend a store that carried a toy that the department store he was working for didn't carry. At first the management didn't like the idea but when customers responded favorably the mgt changed their minds...IT IS CALLED CREATING GOOD WILL>.

And Wayne's sign off was the topic of the thread.

I think someone has to "tell" then it gets moved.

About one minute ago I know a person that reported the thread as non technical.

May have an impact?

Edit: Transferred to OT in short order. Just click on the red triangle to report when warranted.

So you're saying you had posted something even more asinine than this? Are you one of those people on yelp that haven't been to a restaurant but review it based on other people's photos? :D:D

No, I did not listen.
But all automotive media is the same.

I'm an Android guy.
Let us know when it's on Spotify.

I'd still edit out the "ya know's"
You've gotten very good feedback that may represent a large portion of your audience.

Good luck!

I have had a few posts that were scrubbed because they were over the top.

I usually got a PM from Jack or Wayne asking me what the heck I was thinking along with a polite recommendation to chill out.

When I was banned (those three times), I got an e-mail, still polite, stating the reasons for my vacation to the island.

My bet in your case is somebody, bet not the OP, reported the post as a form of belittlement, and, according to the rules of the forum, corrective action was taken.

You can have an edge when you get your "keeping it real" on. However, you contribute to the forums in good faith and you have originated some damned good threads.
