People are “interesting”. No manners or clueless

My mom was in the hospital. She’s fine now. Scary touch and go for a spell. My brother shouldered the bulk of the load since he lives in the same town.

I flew in to give him a break. He went to SHOT SHOW.

I’m “driving miss daisy”. Taking my mom to her battery of medical test.

I’m stunned at how, even in the busiest waiting rooms people will grab a seat and put their bags on the adjacent seat. Not a single person removed their bag so my mom could sit down. I gave my mom my seat and pulled up one of those miniature kid chairs. (Thrilled I still bend like that). Nobody batted an eye.

Whatever. Ironically, I wouldn’t credit my mom for teaching me manners.

Nah. Maybe if there isn’t any kid seats. I wasn’t angered by it. Not even annoyed. Just an observation really.

And I was pondering peoples behavior from within. Not with external input. That’s a different ball of wax.

Difficult to get bothered in a room full of sick folks. On the grand scheme, I’m kicking ass

Yep. Been teaching my kids that. We were waiting in a restaurant seated at the waiting area. I noticed an old man walked in with a walker along with his family. His wife, I assume, had a cane. No one noticed. Many were on their phone, looking up once in a while and other were chatting, again looking up once every so often to check out the crowd. I got my kids to go up to the old man to offer his seat. All the young folks just sat there like nothing had happened. Walking up to a door. Oh my that's another story for another day. People just rush out as soon as you rap the door handle. What the hell happened to us? I think you and I are just getting old, Vash.

A lot of people seem to think they're are more important than everyone else. Examples are everywhere; pushing in front of people standing in line, selfish driving, taking up two spaces when parking, 'look-at-me' social media, arguing on political message boards, etc. It probably doesn't help that they've all been raised to believe they're 'special'.
We should admire Vash for his ability to rise above it and not let it get to him. It leads to a far more peaceful existence.

I agree with everything you said except for the last sentence. I respectfully disagree with that last part.

Me in that sitch:
Excuse me, your bags are in that chair and there aren't enough chairs to go around. Would you mind moving them?

Then one of two:

1) Thank you very much, or
2) wtf is wrong with you, were your parents idiots too?

Hopefully the first one would suffice. If we go passive aggressive and allow poor behavior, we are encouraging it.

Manners have gone out of fashion. Just try exiting or entering a store and hold the door for the person behind you. Count how many just blow through like you are the door man. When they do so, I will say in a loud voice "You're welcome".

Waiting rooms I've been to around here women will remove their junk and/or men will give up their seats for a woman.

Theses are the same people who park their cart in the middle of the grocery store isle, or don't see the red light change to green, while they are texting. They are the same ones who fill the overhead compartment on the airplane with multiple bags, and their coat, and briefcase, and leave the last to board needing to have their bags checked.

Common courtesy is even more rare than common sense these days. That being said we are pretty polite here in the south (with the exception of while driving)

As a native to Los Angeles I was shocked how nice the people are in Kentucky when I did a job there.

But Vancouver Canada has everyone in Merica beat... I was vacationing there, driving down the road with a map in the passengers seat (remember those?) when a lady starts frantically waving at me to pull over. I thought "oh great, I probably violated some Canadian traffic law I am not aware of." We pull over, she walks up to my windows and says "you look lost can I help you?"

the density of the population of any given area does seem to be a factor...

Usually they are so stunned they say thank you to me. If you look them in the eye when they walk through the door, they say something.

A lot of kids are just not raised right. My grandson is 12 and I would not have to tell him to get up so an elderly person can have his seat, or to wait and let the little kid go ahead of him on the slide or whatever. I look at him and think if there are enough like him, we will do okay.

The other day I was walking my dog on half a sidewalk (because of a row of bushes).

A woman jogger came around the corner ahead.
She had two opportunities to swing over onto the empty street, but instead she decided to charge right at me and pup.
Expected to push me completely off the sidewalk. I did not. She got mad.
Her own choices.

I stopped caring about rude people a while ago.

I always get my dogs out of the way of people, always. The dog can go on the grass or in the street. Of course, the small one is 90#, so the dogs take up some space.

I would expect someone to move their dog too. I should not have to ask.

like when a person is just standing/blocking in a hallway or isle and they see you coming but you STILL have to stop and ask them to move so you can get by.

You guys are right. He was on the long leash which would have required hauling him in fast especially with closing speeds. She whipped around the corner and there was not time for that. Normally I would have. The street was wide open but she intentionally chose to try to displace me by walking straight up the center. Lived here a decade and never saw her before.
