They had to over-dub that last line. It originally was "Dallas". Kennedy had been shot only a couple of months before...

Awesome creative genius in its creation but make no mistake, this was not for arts sake alone. This movie was released at a specific time to influence the nation.

Fail Safe was released later in the year. It bombed (hey) at the box office.

The US president's name was Merkin Muffley. A merkin is a woman's toupee for the pubic area, when shaved for lice as in a prostitute. Muffley is also a play on that theme. Kubrick's sense of humor... Great movie!

Every time I see that movie I pick up new stuff. Didn't recall the presidents name. One of those movies (like blazing saddles and young frankenstein) I can't watch enough.

George C Scott was not happy with the movie. Kubric had him do multiple takes. Scott thought it was a serious movie and played it straight. But Kubric had him do comedic/over the top takes each time as well, with the intention of only using those.

The original ending had a pie fight...yes they filmed the pie fight.

This, along with Princess Bride, are great movies for the comedic lines.

Kubrick's movies are like an onion. Every time you peel back a layer you find something new. Back in the day, I watched A Clockwork Orange (had to have been) a dozen times and found something new every time. Genius. Warped, but genius.
