Cheer or Boo?
I can't decide. It's awesome. It's also terrible.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, I guess. https://jalopnik.com/forget-singer-you-want-a-mid-engine-ls-swapped-porsche-1830004053 |

Ingenius! Do I like it? Yes. Could I do it? No. Tip of my hat to the guy!
|
Hisssss
|
Wow! Full respect for the attention to detail!
If he likes it he's happy and don't care what you or I think... |
Crazy fabrication skills.
|
Oddly interesting, almost Audi TT
|
"A" for effort. But no.
|
The ridged metal on the wheel well areas are rather fugly and ruin it for me.
Take those off, and I could almost see it being a future-ized 914 style if the metal for the now gone rear quarter windows were removed. |
Boo
|
Lot of time and skill involved in that build.
Nicely 'executed' 912 mod. Hope he gets some quality road time out of it. (edit: I did say 'executed' 912) |
Looks like a lot of fun.
Perhaps some day he'll find the time to do his own unique bodywork style on an even greater part of the car. |

I am very impressed but the purist in me votes boo. |
Great skills and all that but at every level that's just horrible!
And he's built something that's basically unsellable. |
that cannot be unseen, too bad
|
needs better wheels to fill out the wheel wells better. But crazy cool build.
|
Andrew15 built a 914 with a Nissan V6 in it. I drove it at Watkins Glen and Brainerd. It is a fast, well set up race car. He could have just as easily done an LS transplant.
The wheelbase was unchanged and it didn’t ruin the dynamics of the car. I suspect that this mid engine 911 would not handle anything like a 911. |
Cheers. Now go find some Bondo...
|
Applaud the skill...
|
"Karl Gaskins bought his then-beige Porsche 912 new in 1966, trading off a 1953 Studebaker Starlight Coupe and a split-window Beetle to acquire Porsche’s flat-four special. "
Lets have a moment of silence for this 912. Yes, mad sheet metal skills (I spent ten years as a tin knocker) but not meant for a 912. |

He has $15K in it according to the article, admittedly bought at different points and $'s are worth different amounts at different times. When he first cut it up I doubt 912's were worth much, they probably still aren't worth much. Seems like he enjoyed what he was doing on the side. Most often projects like this end up unfinished; that is when they are unsellable. |
Some things you do just because you can.
I applaud the guy’s skills. Hiss, boo! |
The "Boo" lady from princess bride was supposed to load, but it didn't.

Fugly, but good on him.
I know I couldn’t do it. |
Just because you can doesn't mean you should...
|
At first I thought the fenders and wheel arches were fabric, like that weird BMW “show” car. It looked stretched like an old school blimp.....
|
It looks a bit like Wayne's 959. Ya know, turbo an' all.
|
Excuse me sir ....... sir ...... please pass the eye bleach !
|
cool story and build, cant say I like the looks however.

For less money and time he could have went electric. Some would boo electric, but at least more of the original car would be left. Yep, he has some skills, but poor direction. |
He says he has 15k in it, but how many hours to make that thing? Time is money also, and it appears tons of hours and years so I would say that equals a lot of money. Interesting exercise, good for him for building whatever the hell he wants and not worry about what others say. With that being said sometimes it is good to have close friends that can talk some reason into you to maybe talk you off the ledge. Either way, not my car or money or time. If he is happy that's all that matters. That's what I say to everyone when they want to do crazy crap to their cars.
|
It’s hideous.
That guy shouldn’t even be building lawn furniture. |
Fabrication and problem solving skills - Off the friggin charts!
Design skills - well, who am I to judge? |
His fabrication skills are rudimentary. That's why he ended up with so many bad design details. His inability to fabricate compound curved surfaces yielded the hideous flares and other disasters.

The workmanship on the fenders is great. I like all the breaks. I like it as long as the photos are close-ups. The fenders totally suck on that car, but they’re nice work.
|
When I bought my current 911SC I called Techweenie (sp) to ask him a few questions on my plans; I trust his opinions: He basically said, "enjoy the car, make it what you want it to be...nothing special about the current car."
The car in question in this thread may not be my ideal, but I love the effort: Nothing special about the donor. |

It is just a car, and it is his car and time and money. I see many people modify cars to fit their tastes. His taste is not the same as mine by a long shot, but it is his car to do with as he sees fit. Years ago a company called Gemballa did HORRIBLE things to a 911 for Vanilla Ice. Google it for yourself. It was way worse than the the car of this thread. |
