Looking for advice on...

I'm new to iPhone's as my wife and I just got some new ones (7's) yesterday. She was tired of her basic phone not working after so many years.
What I'm looking for is advice on cases. I find mine fits just fine in one of my pockets that are sewn into my fire hose pants. I'd like a case that allows that to still happen but don't like the slipperiness of the bare case.
Any suggestions/comments on what you're using would be appreciated.

I have a Caseology case on my iPhone. Dropped it and protected just fine. Got it on Amazon.

I've had really good luck with the Apple branded silicone covers. The silicone is grippy, and the case is pretty thin so it doesn't add much bulk. They are pricey though at $50. THere are Chinese knock-offs. I haven't tried any of those. Sometimes they are really good, but sometimes they are really bad. But if they only cost $10-20, it may be something that you want to try.

My iPhone is in a Otter Box. I drop it about every other day. Works great.

I use these cases exclusively.

Have them on 3 phones.

https://www.burkleycase.com/magnetic-detachable-leather-wallet-case-for-apple-iphone-8-iphone-7-distressed-antique-coffee/

I carry only one physical debit card and one credit card at a time plus my DL.

Physical cards I'm not carrying at the time are still useable through iPhone Wallet app for touchless pay. Don't knock it, it's more secure than physical cards these days.

Other ID I need to carry, medical etc... goes on a free app called CarryLess.

Fits in pocket.

Check out the CES phone case challenge to see which cases protect your phone the best. Most of the reputable companies (Pelican. Otter Box, Tech21. Speck) test their cases from 6ft onto concrete. I work in the industry and can tell you that super slim silicone cases don’t do sh&$ to protect your phone.

Thank you all for the help. I now have some starting places for my search.

I will admit, my wife has dragged me kicking and screaming into the tech of the phone world. I just as well would do without one, but she insists I need to be 'in touch'. So here I am.
Thanks again for the suggestions. I really do appreciate the help.

Take advantage of the tech.

Things like touchless pay and payment apps, Venmo and Apple Pay are super convenient.

I use payment apps for my house cleaner, kids tutor, splitting the bill when out with friends.

Manage your banking and CC cards on the go.

Uber and Lyft.

Control home stuff, a Rachio sprinkler controller and smart phone is the cats ass.

Get a free google voice number, forward it to the phone. Give that out instead of your real number.

Pro Tip: When you set up your fingerprint you can do multiple. Do your left and right thumb. Also set up your wifes on your phone and vice versa.

I have an iFrogz cover that has lasted for years and still looks like new. It has tire tread on the back and sides. Very grippy, sometimes too much, like when I’m trying to get it out my pants pocket.

i've had my phone for 3 years, and until very recently, had never taken a photo, or surfed the web with it. I have always texted about things for sale, and facebook marketplace is a good place to find deals.

I NEVER take the phone to the restroom, or pull it out during dinner, or while driving, or while walking down a sidewalk.

I guess by modern terms, i'm a luddite.

I’ve used a Speck case for probably 7-8 years. Got it on Amazon. Doesn’t feel big/bulky and I keep it in my front pocket. Grippy on all sides and I’ve dropped it repeatedly.

I found the Otterbox to be too bulky.

Be sure to protect your screen against scratches. There are several very good screen protectors on the market.

I hear you on the screen protector. Just wish I'd waited to investigate that a little more before jumping on the one the guy at T-Mobile offered. Let's just say I got hosed on it price wise, but it was put on before the phone face was ever touched so it's clean underneath it and the self aligning box got it lined up nicely. The kid did it when we set up the service.
So far, I'm liking the caselogy cases.

Yorkie - Thanks for the heads up on the CES test. Very informative.

Use a Bellroy.com leather case that has a hatch for 3 cards.
Almost never carry a wallet any more.
Have always carried my iPhones in a shirt pocket with no damage issues.
Had this phone and case for 2 years and it and the phone look new.
Before that had one on my 6 that looked like tire treads.
Really like the card hatch on the back freeing myself from a wallet.
Currently have a 7plus to help my aging eyes.

I’ve had Specks and Otterboxes on different phones and they’ve worked great in my work environment which is crawling all over locomotives taking photos of various issues. +1 on a good screen protector.

I get the cheap ones on Amazon, like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B599ES.

I'm sure there's one similar for the 7. Cheap enough to replace. Decent protection when phone drops (I dropped mine maybe 4 or 5 times already, but not on concrete or rock yet). And totally not slippery.
