DPMS Oracle?

Does anyone have any experience with a DPMS Oracle? I’m thinking about dipping my toes into the AR waters and this seems like the most cost effective way to do this.

What are your thoughts?

There are several tiers of quality in the DPMS line, not sure where the Oracle sits.

Personally when I decided AR prices had bottomed out last year, I became a happy customer of Palmetto State Armory. Between their various holiday sales and daily deals, I now have 3 ARs to keep my FAL happy, all between $400 and $500. On their 4th of July sale and Father's Day sales it was possible to build an AR for just at $320... Really need to get more mags though... and ammo.

With PSA the simple thing is to get a complete lower on sale/special for $100-200, and then a complete upper on sale/special for $200-350, put the 2 halves together, and add a mag, ammo, and optic if needed.

I considered doing the custom route but I really don’t have time for this... I would probably buy a bunch of parts and a year later would still have a bunch of parts.

Another option I am considering is the M&P 15.

Eh, you don't go custom, just a top half and bottom half. If you can break the rifle open for cleaning, you can put it together. 2 pins, will take longer to find your box opening tools to open the packages than it will to put it together.

$410 for the rifle plus whatever your FFL charges, $40 for the irons or $100 for the dot. Add 10 P-mags and 1k rounds of ammo for another $350 at PSA's site.

No direct experience with modern DPMS - older ones were hit and miss. With all of the competition in the market today I would expect them all to be solid.
Nothing wrong with the PSA guns. The higher specification barrels are worth the extra money - their bargain barrels can be hit and miss as well.
I have had a Rock River gun for a decade and a half that has been a solid performer and very accurate.
There are plenty of AR's that just work - I don't know what it takes or which manufacturers sell into Canada.
id10t is correct - there is nothing to putting an upper and lower together and everything is interchangeable.
One difference you may have in Canada is taxes. Here in the US the tax on "firearms" is very high - but not on "parts", So you can buy a lower (which is serial numbered and thus taxed) and a "parts kit" for a lot less than a complete gun - thus the popularity of doing that here.
DPMS, PSA, Smith and Wesson, Bushmaster, Windham, Stag, Spikes - All make good entry level guns. Pick the features you want and the price you are OK with and don't worry to much about the brand.
If you want to change anything about the gun down the road it is easy - one reason AR's are popular is easy interchange of parts.

And about the AR's, i mean, just build your own.. it's not difficult.
Unless you are building something for competiton Long range or service rifle shooting.

They should not cost much, and you don't need the fancy spec to have a good working AR.
Those M16's receivers they used for war, they all worked you know.. And they were all build for cheap cost.

It's really a question of how much gadget budget do you feel like spending..

it's really not about "what do i have to spend to get something that works and shoots well."

As for ARs, there is a lot of good stuff out there for reasonable prices. I have a $1,000-plus AR and an under $400 AR. There is a noticeable difference in quality between the two, and the more expensive one is way more accurate. But the cheap one is just as much fun at plinking as the expensive one.

The issue will be export from teh US due to ITAR law/regulation

Since you are in Canada, best to work with a local dealer and see what he/she can order with ease.

Agreed.

Cabelas in town has the MP15 for 699 can, I can get the DPMS for 625.

It doesn’t make sense to export and seat with ITAR on a cheap gun like this.

Given where you are and local laws it probably makes sense to buy from a dealer.

Around here cabelas is usually the most expensive.

Between those two at those prices I would by the gun with the features I wanted. If they are identical I would buy the DPMS.
