GM bringing back the Hummer as an EV

I didn't see that we have discussed this , GM has announced they are bringing back the Hummer vehicle badged as a GMC and will be an EV . What struck me was the advertised torque ............. 11,500 lb. ft. !!! WOW and 1,000 hp to go along with it .

As far as GM goes, they sometimes get ahead of the market. This might be one of those times, we shall see.

I have not seen a Hummer H1 on the road in many years. Almost no H2, and H3s are rare. The H1 is just a huge vehicle. No doubt the 95 pound soccer mommies that drive the F350s or the the Ford Excursion will line up to get one.

Nearly 12,000 lb ft of torque will pull the frame out from under your RV camper if you aren't careful. My diesel Excursion has 600+ Lb ft, and feels like a rocket while towing.

No desire to be have the fastest brick on the block.

What kind of bead lock is used to stop the tire from spinning on the wheel ? That is mind numbing torque I can just imagine how many folks will end up killed driving these Can you imagine driving these on wet/icy/snow covered roads with the average dim bulb driver behind the wheel ? The future will be interesting

From the Car And Driver website:

"That torque figure sounds suspicious to us, so we're thinking that it's a measure of the amount of wheel torque, meaning it's multiplied through the truck's gear ratio. The amount of torque actually produced by the electric motors would probably be more like 1150 lb-ft. We asked GMC for clarification, and a spokesperson told C/D that the company is not getting more specific at this point."

The GMC Hummer EV won't officially launch until fall 2021, but it's already throwing down some impressive numbers -- most notably, 1,000 horsepower and a whopping 11,500 pound-feet of torque. Thing is, that second number isn't necessarily an accurate representation.

It all comes down to what specification you use. GMC's massive number appears to correspond to wheel torque, which is traditional motor torque multiplied through the transmission's drive ratio. Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained has a great video that spells out the difference, a piece he published following Tesla's claim that the Roadster 2.0 will produce more than 7,000 lb-ft of torque. Fenske used a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon as an example. That model produces 972 Newton-meters of engine torque (770 lb-ft). However, multiplied through its gear ratios, you get 14,000 Nm of wheel torque (10,325 lb-ft) in first gear.

Unless this new truck is larger than the H1 I don't see them downsizing except to signal how great they are.

I was watching one of the Jay Leno's Garage episodes. He was discussing one of his steam powered tractors that is the size of a small locomotive. He said someone else took one like it to a tractor pull. It just drug the winner of the tractor pull around like it was a child's toy.

The torque of steam is way more than even electric.

Even after the sled was all loaded up the tractor kept going. He could have driven home pulling the sled all the way. It did not even slow down.

Only 110 HP. I guess they measure the torque in yard pounds.

- this will be a halo vehicle, like the Bugatti - it is essentially an advertising exercise to get the public to buy the next model after this (which will be produced in quantity)
