Berlin Now And Then....WWII

I find this fascinating. They superimpose images of Berlin during WWII on to present images. 1:47 long.

Memories

Thank you! Enjoyed the video. Stationed there three years in the Air Force. My wife and I loved our tour there. Been back a couple times since, the latest in 2015. It has changed since the wall came down but a lot is still the same.

Technically brilliant but I find videos like this disturbing...

More than 60,000,000 dead worldwide!
What people often forget is that the Germans suffered horribly.
They were duped and used. In the end Hitler blamed the German people for losing the war.

I see nothing but tragedy.

Hitler did not carry a rifle in the war. He did not fire artillery or drop any bombs.
He did not manufacture any weapons or operate any gas chambers.
Those things were done by the German people. Yes, under instruction from Hitler but they carried out the orders.
They suffered, almost as much as those who suffered by their hand. In both wars.

the German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They, it is alleged, not only expect one to know one’s gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.
Speedbird 206: “Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway.”
Ground: “Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven.” The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: “Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?”
Speedbird 206: “Stand by, Ground, I’m looking up our gate location now.”
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): “Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?”
Speedbird 206 (coolly): “Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark,… and I didn’t land.”

Quote:
a Pan Am 727 flight waiting for start clearance in Munich reported overhearing the following:
Lufthansa (in German): “Ground, what is our start clearance time?”
Ground (in English): “If you want an answer you must speak in English.”
Lufthansa (in English): “I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?”
Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): “Because you lost the bloody war.”

The German people suffered under Hitler because they lost the war. They didn't suffer under Hitler because he persecuted them. The rest of the world suffered from Hitler because he tried to kill or conquer them.

You're both right! You'll get no argument from me.

Evidence of the Battle for Berlin is everywhere in the center of Berlin. Window surrounds and bridges riddled with bullets or sporting patches are numerous. A city worthy of one of those open topped bus tours if you ever go there as there are few cities in the west that have gone through such turmoil in the 20th century.

I've never been to London, but my brother lived there for several years.
He told there is still evidence of the battle of Britain just about everywhere if you look for it.

No one really wins a war.

The building my dad worked in at Hickam AFB in Hawaii was the headquarters for PACAF. It has bullet holes in the wall right at the font entrance. Very noticeable. They leave them there to remind anyone that goes in, we were attacked and got out asses kicked that day and to remain vigilant so it does not happen again.

I worked there for many years during the 90s. We were still excavating munitions from the Docklands area.

So if they had won they wouldn't have suffered. Then you are saying that it was a shame that they followed a Bohemian corporal and not someone more competent. This nuance of a perceptional ethical and moral view of yours indicates a deficiency in your ethical and moral compass.

The Germans lost because they were gullible in following someone whose perceptional views were so twisted and tantamount to being evil. Hitler led them to their nadir of the soul.

Interesting video. Episode 12 East-West-Axis about an hour into it has a familiar sound track, the same as a popular HBO series.

The Romans won the Punic wars against Carthage, which finally allowed them to dominate the Med etc and eventually become the Empire that they became.

Your inability to delineate indicates a lack of perspicacity on your part.

Hitler did carry a rifle on the Western Front for 4 years in WW1, being cited for bravery with the award of the Iron Cross.

When Hitler dictated his Last Will and Testament to his Secretary Traudel in April 1945, she thought that finally Hitler would reveal the reason why he led Germany to war and it's nadir. She was surprised that it was the same old monologue of it being about the Banker etc Jews persecuting Germany from attaining it's rightful place of greatness and that the German people were not up to the task of being great. That the German people deserved to perish for their failure.

What Germany was left with after Hitler was the horror of being so ethically and morally devoid that they could so willfully and joyfully commit abominations against humanity.

In the secular world of having no God there is no absolution by asking for forgiveness for ones sins, leaving only a denial that it ever happened to cleanse the soul. Since this is a contravention of the reality of such barbarism it is a form of madness. The Germans and other like minded Europeans did oversee the industrialization of Genocide.

In the high civilization world of Goethe, Beethoven and Bach such bestiality could and did take place on a grand scale.
