Vintage Car Racing Video

I saw this home made 8 mm production that is pretty GD stellar, to me anyway, maybe because I was the right age for this to strike me in just the right way. Seems like videos of old race cars would be of some interest to most perusing this site, so Vintage Race Car Videos

postemifyagottem

There is a Pelican connection to this video, who can guess...

This one is sort of cool too, though much lower quality than that first one. 550 was a badass little rig, won the small bore and second place in the open one

Sports car racing in Iowa, in 1955?

The original video rocks because it's Can-Am. That's when real men raced real cars. Just like Group-B. IMHO, of course. :-)

The connection to this forum? That’s obvious.

The girl on the right at 3:13 is wearing the same pants that Tabs has... they might even be the same pair.

More seriously, is there a Grady Clay connection?

That looks sort of like Grady at 1:50 and 1:57, very briefly. White shirt, horn-rimmed glasses, mustache.

Neat, we just moved from Iowa City that summer. That must be at the airport, although I was pretty small then.

Someone got that in under 3 freakin hours.

This was going to be my hint. Pretty sure Mr Polak's son frequents this site. I did not know that was Mr Clay. If indeed that was him, now we know what he looked like 50 years ago. Denny Hulme looked old even then.

Nobody has any old videos?

How do I know what Grady looked like 50 years ago? Easy...met him in '75. He helped me when I had a mechanical malfunction with an old 911S when I was far from home. Yes, I'd say that's Grady in those quick shots.

Grady indeed was a man who had "been there-done that" during Porsche's glory days.

(edit) One find memory of meeting Grady was the 1975 PCA Parade on Seattle....Grady at the rear of his maroon 911, both weber carb banks out, carb pieces scattered on a blanket...Gtady: "There's the problem." He must have found it, because he did quite well in the autocross...
