I have owned several NARP's ........ 944S , 914 and now a Boxster S . Had two air cooled 911's before those and I liked them all when I owned them . Each has their own personalty and strengths and weaknesses . I can honestly say my current Boxster is the best of the bunch for me . I think it has classic looks , is comfortable and performs/handles/brakes far beyond my capabilities as a driver . I could care less what anyone say's about any of the cars I have owned in the past , I am driving them to impress ME and no one else . Yeah it's nice to have your ego stroked by positive comments but that lasts 5 minutes . I didn't buy any of the Porsche's I have owned as investments .......... I purchased them to drive and enjoy !

Personally I think the Boxster is better looking than the Caymen.

The ugly prom queen, 914
but hey she still put out... https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/02/27/why-i-drive-porsche-914?utm_source=SFMC&utm_medium=email&utm_content=D aily_News_Thursday_February_28 |
First gen Cayman to similar year Boxster I'm going to side on the Cayman.
Current gen, Boxster. Early Boxster vs 996 911 Cab, Boxster. |

The 985 is a beautiful car any way you look at it. The car was designed as a convertible. With that said, it hides the roof very well when down. Up, it shapes the car so nicely, like "let's build a car around this top". With the hardtop, looks more aggressive and changes the ride from inside.. My guess is that it is because of the original plan to be a convertible. Simply said, 986 is just a very cool little (relatively speaking) versatile car. Yeah not the fastest but if your chasing that title, good luck to ya.
Fast enough for most people by the way. |

Not all those trucks fall apart. This one has 194k miles and lives in the upper Midwest. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1551461742.JPG |
An issue with the Cayman is if I want performance, I'm better off getting a Corvette.
If I want Luxury I'm better off getting a Jaguar. A 500HP Jaguar XKR Coupe can be had for similar money to a Cayman. And if you spend similar cost of a Cayman on a Corvette you'll have a car that is faster and just as well appointed. The magnetic adjustable dampers in the 'Vette if optioned really make for a nice comfortable cruiser that tightens up the moment it is needed. The one go to of the Cayman is exterior styling, I do like the rear and rear quarter view a lot. |
Balance is better than the 'vette. If you autocross or rack it on a tight course the balance may be better than brute power.
Personally, I would take the C5/C6 'vette. Or a Flyin' Miata/ |
I will not shop for an early Boxster... I will not shop for an early Boxster... I will not shop for an early Boxster...
Many years ago I sat in one at the Germanautofest, I must have bee grinning ear to ear because my girlfriend at the time rolled her eyes and said "Oh just buy one!" |
