How many are left in this community?

I don’t mean ‘Left’ like some of the guys in Parf, I mean at one point there were 100s of regulars who posted in this forum. Now it seems like 50 or less regulars.

Some day we'll all make our last post....or lurk.

Yer right....it's been a helluva run though :)

I just bounce in on a phone these daze...

I suppose the age of the DIY Porsche community is starting to reach check out time.

The cost of older Porsche's being bought by collectors prices out a newer younger generation.

Makes me wonder what other brand of car might attract a similar group of enthusiasts in a newer generation.

I believe the community could see an interesting bump if Pelican took the lead on DIY parts for Jaguar two doors.

I come here almost nightly to take a break from my daily paper work (10-25 min) just to get my butt kicked by you guys but don't always post. I no longer to to tech. I still see the same people here. Newer guys are far and few now. I think we scare them off

Miata! A lot of very cool people drive Miata's... unfortunately so do a dorky kids but you have to take the good with the bad.

Once the youngins discover the prices on older Boxster's the Porsche community could get an influx of youth.

I think this is right on. I'm also active in the BMW world, and there seems to be more activity there although the wealth of knowledge on Pelican is unsurpassed.

I'm here daily, several times. It's my facebook......of which I do not have. It does seem that some of the members of past years are not or rarely posting. That's OK, It's my go to news first thing in the morning. I enjoy everyone here.....

I showed up when my old board lost its server. (Legal battles, naming rights, etc) In it's prime it was far larger than this place but not international like Pelican. I was a mod and it sucked. It was the same as Pelican in regards to community.

As an example, we had one regular adopt a newborn baby so one of the regular girls set up a registry. Over a 100 people ordered a gift. Some bought diapers. Some bought cribs or strollers. We each received a personalized thank you card in the mail.

The new team set up a new board but some folks just threw in the towel and quit altogether. .They didn’t set up a political board and that lost a lot of traffic Not nearly the same. I still miss the old place.

That said, this place is pretty damn good. Excellent moderation. Worldwide exposure. Vast expertise. Higher overall income here due to main content (Porsche vs football).

I think I will stay awhile.

I am still over the Miata board but not as much as here. I like this place. Its my only chat board I belong to. I belong to a bike form, but go there once twice a year when I am really bored and that never happens

I’d really like to see Pelican make a big push with the water cooled cars. That’s the future of Porsche enthusiast owners. Most of the air cooled cars are now in collections being lightly dusted on a weekly basis, not really the target customers for a DIY forum. Right now Rennlist owns the market for the newer cars, but Rennlist sorta sucks.

As for Miatas, love those things. A new RF with the Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, and aero package would be a perfect daily driver.

I lurked for quite a while before joining and am still a minor participant here - as you can see by my post count over eighteen years. I belong to one other board, but it's for motorcycles, and I don't check in there often, whereas I look in on this one daily. Maybe the number isn't as high as it used to be, but the people on here are genuinely (generally) very good people. You don't find that often. The quality of the people, combined with the concern, knowledge, and generosity will probably be something we'll all remember after it's gone.

I got pulled in from the 944 board here... Z-Man kicked some of our OT threads to... well OT.

I wonder how Z-man is doing, never met him but seemed like a cool guy.

I have been here a lot less time than many of you, but in my time, I concur. Not as many here as used to be. The good, bad and the interesting. It has changed a lot in the past few years since the Marque has sky rocketed. Many active members I think sold and the new owners either aren't members or aren't active. And of course Wayne is gone.

You can see it in the threads/posts. Where once they would just keep rolling over, now it's the same four or five posts for a few days.

That being said I am very appreciative of you all that are still here.

Thanks.

I asked a couple questions about 993 turbos before I bought mine and those fk'er chased me outta there. Not going back anytime soon.

Still here, but just don't spend as much time in front of a computer as I used to since I retired, so posting has been down. Don't plan on leaving anytime soon!

I'm not here. I have been replaced by a russian bot.. oops. Did I just say that? Never mind. It wasn't me who said it was me. It was the other me. But not me.

I think that PPOT is greying and as already stated, new younger blood are not coming in. I believe this is due to affordability and, the cars that are affordable aren't as DIY-friendly like the air cooled were.

That said, there are some who wish I wasn't here. They need to get over it.
Go Bruins

I’ve noticed changes in the 10 years I’ve been here. Some folks died, some just disappeared. I miss most of them, but not all. It’s a good bunch of people. Things seem calmer in general now, I don’t see so many pissing contests. I was on the AOL “All Autos” board for several years. It was similar, in that it was ostensively about cars, but we talked about everything. I’m glad I found PPOT a few years after it disbanded.

This is one of the forums I visit daily, I still have my 1985.5 Porsche 944, but will be selling this Spring. I will continue on this forum, and sometimes PARF.
