Something I learned is that I was living during an extreme low in Tornadoes for my area.

Used to be far more frequent.

When I started looking up what had happened in the past and that I'd been living in "calm" compared to "average" I decided it was time to work on cutting down trees that could fall on the house.

Thankfully although tornado frequency here in the Carolinas is a lot higher than I would have thought, it isn't the F5+ of the plains.

We are in a period of time where we are far more aware of drastic weather events than in the past. Our ability to share information is unprecedented.

Terrible storm.

Check out the 2013 Moore, Ok tornado. F5 with 210 mph winds. On the ground for over 30 minutes.

Most studied storm in history. Several people on my old football board lost homes.

Or the other Moore tornado with 301 mph winds. Or the Yukon, OK tornado that is the worlds largest at 2.2 miles wide.

The storm that occurred last Sunday in Alabama is only a few miles from where I live. We only had rain and a little wind at my house m, but Buregard, Al took the direct hit and that is where all of the people were killed. It looks like a war zone there with houses now unrecognizable and totally destroyed. My heart goes out to all the people who were affected by the tornado, and to the families of loved ones who died in the storm.
