Replaced the outside gaskets from the mirror to the door on the MINI. There were sections where they were missing. My first Pelican Parts purchase and very easy to replace after the manual showed the mirror rotates in two directions.

The clothes hanger in MrsWD's closet was hanging down at a 45 degree angle when we moved into this place 2 years and 2 weeks ago. Personally, I store my bathrobe in a handy pile on the floor, but MrsWD has a thing about hanging her clothes up. For 2 years and 2 weeks I've been saying to her, "I have to get around to fixing that someday." Well, today was the day!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580055825.jpg

The ugly-ass hook was hanging at a 45 degree angle. It is attached through holes at 12, 4, and 7 clock positions. The installer used moly bolts in the two lower holes and a toggle bolt in the top.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580055825.jpg

The reason it was hanging down was obvious. The installer had screwed the "wings" on the toggle bolt on backwards. It never held a thing.

It's taken me longer to fix things simpler than that.

I amazed myself today. I reflowed the dry solder joints on the display on my old Yamaha DSP A1 integrated amp. 103 joints. It now works again after slowly fading away over the years.

Cue the laughter, but yes I'm fixing this thing (again!):

I’m finishing some work up on this 1975 Honda XL 250. There is a vintage motorcycle show down in Lawrence Kansas this weekend and the theme is single cylinder motorcycles. Mine is definitely not going to be in the show queen category.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580413538.jpg

oldE 01-30-2020 01:24 PM

I mentioned in another thread I have sold my model railroading stuff. I held onto a locomotive my father had and a couple of pieces of rolling stock. I had a piece of glass cut today and made a little display case to fit under a shelf.
My wife did some backgrounds in watercolor and I put it together this evening. Sorry for the glare.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580423042.jpg

Looks great Kurt! That's a fantastic bike. I noticed yours (like mine) doesn't have it's turn signals. For off road probably not really needed. Mine doesn't have them either but I just picked some up on eBay to install at some point - they came off a '75 like yours. Have fun at the show! SmileWavy

VERY nice, Les. Clever idea as a display. Would love to see a better photo of the background painting your wife did if possible. I did a bit of model RRing too back in the day. When my oldest brother moved out, my next oldest brother moved into his room and I had the bunk bed all to myself, so converted the entire top bunk bed into an HO Railroad layout. That was a lot of fun. :p

Soooooooooooo glad January is over. Did a BUNCH of insulating after a blower door test. Replaced a well pump because the damn check valve failed. Had to replace front calipers on the F250 because the passenger side was seized and the drivers side had cracks in the seals. One of the replacement calipers blew a seal when I pumped up the brakes for bleeding! Did I mention I'm really glad January is over with?

James. Can you fab a fairly thin cover on the outside (or both sides) of aluminum to screw, rivet, ??? to reinforce that aluminum casting? Maybe JB weld the broken parts together and reinforce it with an aluminum plate.

oldE 02-01-2020 02:32 PM

Baz,
I asked the Mrs to do a number of background paintings. I measured out the dimensions on a large sheet of art paper and drew a light horizon line on each panel.
Since it is a matter of removing seven screws to gain access to the background I didn't remove the one that is in at the moment. I would describe it as having a brighter sky with more yellow and gold , suggesting a sunset.

Here are the others. The tops were left blank as they curve into the top to reflect light.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1580599921.jpg

Bought a Ryobi drain auger and cleaned out my kitchen sink drain pipe which started draining slow on me this past week. I had a hand powered unit but decided to upgrade and am happy with my decision because this unit worked great!

Just finished a 4 wheel (rotors and pads) brake job on my 2011 VW Touareg. Can't believe how much dirt/sand was caked (frozen) on the inside of the rear wheels. I'd bet close to 3 pounds worth.

Tell me more - I’ve never heard of a battery powered auger.

yeah its all stainless. Its hard to work with i had to heat it up to get it not to spring back. the round part is a pot lid so its alot thinner than the rest. Its all just spot welded on the back with regular mig wire. I ended up doing the engine turning to avoid polishing it. It had flaws that i didnt want to deal with where the weld burnt through. i did the engine turning with a cut down brown roloc disk i think it turned out awesome

porsche930dude 02-19-2020 01:54 PM

I got the driveshaft installed it fit great but was hard as expected. I ended up pulling out the gas tank under the passenger seat it wasnt bad.

I used one exactly like it last weekend, it didn't work for me, but would have if I didn't have a weird clean out where it turns a hard 90. Nifty little auger though. Has forward, reverse and neutral to feed the cable in/out automatically or by hand, also will rotate the cable clockwise/counterclockwise with out feeding/retracting. I think the length was 50ft, 18V.

Working on the wife’s 2006 BMW 1 Series again. The valve cover gasket was leaking, so I replaced it and tossed in a new set of plugs.

I installed the euro style rear reflector with the fog lights. I did not change the switch, as I figured that if I had the front fogs on why not the rear. So I just wired the rear fogs to the original switch.

porsche930dude 02-28-2020 01:05 PM

Rebuilt the front axle on a kubota the pinion bearing cage blew out so it was locking up. lack of oil but luckily somewhat easy and cheap fix

  • Quick disconnect feature for easy release from stand
  • Heavy-duty die cast aluminum housing with durable poly-carbonate lens

Wife's Prius gen 2 (2006) started making crazy buzzing/whining sounds from the stereo.

She takes to mechanic, they say amplifier is bad and refer her to a car stereo shop.

Stereo shop quotes her $800 to replace the stereo, says its deep in the dash.

I locate the amplifier under the front passenger seat, unplug wires from amplifier, sounds stop. Buy a used Prius amplifier off eBay for $67. Remove six screws, pull out old amplifier, install "new" one, all is fixed.

Man, some shops will rip people off if they get a chance.

Evans, Marv 03-04-2020 07:12 AM

afterburn. It's a model # CPH122007 from Lowes. Cost was $999. I looked into them some time ago and this looked like a good choice for the size and construction, plus it was cheaper compared to most others. My neighbor bought one and erected it and vouched for the design and construction, so I ended up doing one also. It's 12 ft. wide X 20 ft. X 8 ft. high. You need two people to put up the verticals and two people really helps putting on the roof. The main problem with the roof is aligning the panels, because if you don't get the center ones straight, the misalignment gets magnified as you go on. It was easy to put up. I bought concrete piers (10 @ 90 lb. each) for the base, but it comes with steel cable anchors.

It's been a busy week so far.
Replaced a door bell button that randomly set off the door bell on its own.

AND I got the Speedster back on the ground after brake/axle seal work that started in November!
