Still working on the rebuild of my 86 engine.
For those of you that haven't done this, it's 90% cleaning. Every part is wiped/scrapped down, scrubbed in the parts cleaner tank, cleaned again with parts/brake cleaner, washed in soapy water and rinsed. Then if not to my satisfaction the process starts all over again. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Trimmed a small hedge using my cordless Kebtec pruners. Goal was to cut trimmings into small enough pieces to fit in the trash cans, that I use for gardening.
I filled 4 cans yesterday and came back today and filled 2 more while completing the job. These Kebtecs have a snip counter. Yesterday was 570 snips...today 402. The top number indicates amount of charge left. Not a big job but made easier with these pruners.......

I’m so proud of myself, so I will share my solution to cutting some ceramic tile border pieces.
I needed to frame a dip in the wall tile for my kitchen and decided it was best to cut 45 degree corners; 2 inside and two outside. I just have a cheap wet saw, so I cut two low fences, two bottom pieces and two different 45 degree pieces of wood- I only had a few cuts and didn’t think I would ever need to do it again, so I went with some hardboard and dried them off after each cut and they held up fine. Here’s a couple pictures: ![]() ![]()

With a friend's help, I moved Mom's old fridge out, by request prior to closing of the prospective new owner. Took it to my storage unit - that has electric. Thing works fine. Doesn't even make any noise. These older appliances are built!
Oh BTW....appliance dolly rental.....only $10.65 from U-Haul!

Hi Everyone,
This is Melanie from Pelican Parts! First of all, I love the thread topic and also enjoy fixing things rather than just consuming and throwing away. There was some discussion about Wera Tools and I just wanted to let you all know that we do carry Wera Tools in our online catalog here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/byb-wera-tools In terms of what I'm fixing today... I fixed my teapot handle today after a little screw and grommet came loose. That could've been bad :/ Have a great weekend everyone! |

Well heck.....looks like more brake work for the Silverado. Ran up to Harbor Freight this morning, back to my storage unit with a new lift table, then down to one of my accounts to do a few things before dark. Upon leaving - brake pedal goes down. Only one circuit working. Compromised line? Will find out tomorrow....

I replaced the spring plates and bushings on the 911 today. I need to torque down everything, clean it up, drop it and see if I got it right….

One of the less straight forward jobs on this pa12 is figuring out this headliner situation. This fuse frame has been welded for alot of skylight glazing. Which isn't desirable for us, not to mention the added weight. The rub.... no one makes a headliner for fuselages with the cathedral bracing modification. So, i managed to get the bows fabricated from brake line (original style bows bent from piper channel are nla these days. Then we massaged into some degree of uniformity. I'm using the old liner as my first pattern. No one makes a commercial liner for a cathedral braced -12, the cathedral braced 12 headliner will have long triangular tails that will attach down the cathedral bracing on both sides, this will allow for a triangular hinged (or not) access panel to the elt shelf and aux baggage.
In any case, I'm sewing the second pattern from cheap vinyl first then I'll the build the final headliner from certified material, while using the first for the final tweaks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

My daughter owns a beauty salon and the thermostat on the water heater has gone bad. So dad is up to replace it. Not a big job.

I have a hard enough time just installing a headliner in a car from a kit! So, now that you've done all the work and have all those patterns, would this be a profitable item for your company to sell? Maybe just the braces and the pattern for the fabric? Seems a shame to not let other owner/builders take advantage of your hard work!

It's something I'll offer. But most guys with these mods opt for the glazing.
