Continuing with the Armored Car restoration. The white plastic chassis soaked overnight in alcohol but really didn't clean up like I wanted. I think it is just too stained from being buried in the dirt for decades, so I will paint it, either gloss black or gunmetal gray. The Citri-strip did the trick, and the diecast body is completely stripped of paint. I have all the pieces soaking in soapy water at the moment. They will be rinsed, dried, and painted this weekend. I'm thinking I will paint the body red and add some detail before clear coating, and the chassis and rims will be gunmetal gray with a black grill. I think Zack will like that.

Another Reduction In The Pile Of Cheap Frooring
8 years ago I built a playhouse for the granddaughter's 3rd birthday. The roof was a piece of fabric salvaged from a small arch structure which fell victim of a spring storm. Two replacement fabric roofs later I thought I would try something different. Yesterday I set up a jig to cut a bunch of the pieces to length then pre drilled them. The ridge cap is through bolted to a bracket I made to secure the roofing to a piece of galvanized pipe that has been there since day one.
The finished product. ![]() Best Les

That's a really nice play set. I'd like to build something like that for Zack.

There was about $500 in materials when I built it, and the slide was repurposed from a swing set for my wife's youngest sister. I had the concrete to set the posts and the ridge pipe and fabric roof. Everything was bolted together with galvanized bolts or fastened with deck screws. There's not a nail in it I would hate to think what it would cost today.

Been working on a 5th Wheel for my daughter. She wants to start saving money for a home so instead of continuing to pay rent, she purchased this and we are putting in a septic system and new power at the front of our property for its new home. Had rot in the floor of one of the slides…so, out it all went..floor, walls, ceiling..everything.

Turned out to be pretty much a complete remodel. Other than a few oak doors, bed platform and vanity, EVERYTHING was sanded, primed and painted. All new flooring, made a butcher block countertop , all new appliances, new lighting, removed and resealed all windows….to be honest, it was way more work than I planned but my OCD took over. Even put in a household toilet.

That looks amazing!
What are the regulations like for that kind of setup? Are you time limited or does the municipality even care? Best Les

^^^ I see vents in the floor. Is that part of the original set up or is that part of the remodel?
Great job BTW! |

We live in a rural setting with about 8 acres. County ordinances require septic system in place which for us is a septic tank and drain field. Went ahead and put in one for a three bedroom house in case we want to build a house there for our daughter or to sell. Cannot have more than one Rv on your property and that opening is closing rapidly for a permanent “structure”. They are going to a temporary only rule to be used while building a permanent structure…max 1 yr.
The floor vents are factory for the furnace. It works very well. This was much more work than I anticipated. I have remodeled sailboats, restored cars and remodeled and built houses. I am better than average with carpentry/ finish work. I wasn’t educated on the unique issues with RV’s and the propensity for leaks and the damage they cause. Lesson learned. Biggest issue is the size of the rooms; for instance, when painting, you barely get started on the walls and your are done which means cleaning the rollers constantly. Same thing with the trim.

Yes, you certainly are. That looks fantastic, and I'm sure the piddley little details put you on the brink at least once. (I'm projecting my own temper threshold here, ha ha!)
RV's and so called Tiny Homes are just their own little world that has little to do with real world housing.

Im really enjoying tinkering around with this old brick . Got it lowered, and managed to get these 17" bmw BBS wheels to fit pretty nicely . I'm loving the stance, but may have to raise the rear slightly to avoid contact with the quarter panels . I beat rolled the lips and the tires clear nicely , but I'm sure if I put a bunch of stuff in the back and hit bumps I will have clearance issues

Ben, that is amazing handiwork on the camper, and great photography. The place looks like a mansion!
Love that car Fred. An older Volvo wagon is on the list of cars I'd like to have, but never will.

Years ago when I was working under the Golden Arches, the franchise owner, Richard (but everyone called him Dick) had previously been a partner in a Volvo dealership. His ride was a 242GT. One afternoon we were loading stuff into the trunk of his Volvo and one of the swing managers saw the space saver spare wheel and enquired,
"Is that your spare, Dick?" The immediate response was,"No. That's my spare tire. Sometimes I wish I had a spare dick, though!" ![]() Best Les

There was a man in the Niceville, Florida area who had one of these in black. I always thought it was pretty cool looking with that lower roofline, very sinister in black for sure.
