Official East Coast Cheap Boxsters List

After some soul searching. And patiently trying to figure out what I’d like as a fun car.
My ‘71 911 is great. But let’s face it. It needs a/c. It’s loud. The top doesn’t go down. No radio. And kinda gets the wrong attention from our hard working donut eating cops.
I still won’t sell the old lady though.

I was looking at 996’s. Convertibles only. Manual.... I think the prices are great but I just can’t get passed the 996 interior and body styling.

So I’ve decided on a 2005 and newer Boxster S. Manual trans.

What deals are out there for under $15,000 Boxster S’s?
I’ve searched cars.com autotrader.com craigslist etc... but would like to see what you’ve come up with.

If you could...could you post the deals here:
For everyone to enjoy! East coast only please. California is a bit too far to go to get a sub $15,000 car.

Here is one I found... wasn’t listed as an “S”.

I've got a brother down in the New Orleans area that might make you a DEAL on an 05 Boxster, not an S. It's Silver on (I think) black. Immaculate. Garage kept, rarely driven probably about 40k miles on it. Manual transmission, the car has been serviced to the nines. He bought it post-Katrina as a CPO out of Florida. Last I talked to him about it a few months ago he was sub 15k on it.

.....and now that the A/C vents are in his words "blowing out small black sticky bits of failing insulation material that will absolutely ruin a white shirt", he is probably ready to really deal. Told me he's gone to the length of letting the car idle in his driveway with the A/C on blowing while he has a shop vac held up to the vents. Apparently it's a fairly common occurrence with the newer Porsches according to my friend that works on them for a living.

A base 987 Boxster is still a damn good car, and will outperform just about any stock air-cooled 911. I would strongly recommend driving one to determine if you really "need" to get an S, I've had both. You should be able to get a very nice base 987 for $15k, but that's at the low end of an S.

for 15k I would shoot for 2 boxsters. The cleaner one still has all the potential issues of the cheaper one, dont get gitty over nice paint or shiny wheels. Get the best one you can find, maintenance piles up if its been neglected.

I had a 986 non S in the past. Great little car. I think prices are that you can get an “S” for under $15k.
Although I’d take a base model if it had sports seats and a sport steering wheel.

So I found a 2008 Boxster. For $10,000

But it has 170,000 miles on it.

Think I’m better off spending $20,000 on a low mileage one?

If it was maintained, go for it. If not spend more IMO. Once you start replacing suspension components, AOS, water Pump it adds up quickly.

Great stuff.

Looking for 2005 and newer. That’s the trick... a 2005 Boxster S. Under 90,000 miles. For under $15k. I’m hoping it’s possible.

Found one....

2008 Boxster Special Edition. (Non S) but I liked that it was orange and wasn’t just a basic car.

Nice! I've been watching for one of the orange ones to pop up here in the NW.

How many miles on it?

Enjoy!

Was a bit more than I had liked. 105,000. But, 1 owner. No accidents. Service records etc... all for $16k. It will take the pressure off my old 911.

The 2.7 base 987 has the peaky torque curve, so plenty more fun to drive it,
just spool it up and it goes like stink

the bigger S has it's torque at lower revs , sure it's faster but for driving fun on public roads.. the 2.7 with a manual is more fun.

Well I drove 788 miles yesterday. Went to pick up the car. Couple things annoy me. The top works. But the previous owner had a shop rig the switches for the top.
So I guess he had an issue at some point then rather than fix properly he “fixed it”.
I got caught in a downpour near Miami. Luckily there was an overpass to cover me while I fiddled with it.
That will be my number 1 thing to fix.

Besides that, the paint is great. Interior has some wear. I didn’t like the worn Alcantara steering wheel at first. But now I like the patina it has.
The car is so much fun to drive. I could already see that I’d like another 50hp. But it handles so well. Better than my Cayman I think.
All servicing was done at Champion Porsche. So just need an oil change to bring to date.
What a car for $16,000!

I think that is a good purchase.

+1 on liking the color and I like the wheels as well.
