Another azzhold neighbor thread - funny ending

I applied for a variance to build a garage within 5 feet of my western property boundary. Each of my neighbors got a notice and an invite to the hearing with the zoning board. My neighbor from the east - never the friendliest guy - came over all hot under the collar. "You've got over an acre of open land there. Ain't no way you need to build a fckin' garage within five feet of my western boundary. That would put it right under our bedroom window ...."

I let him rant for a while. He shoved the notice at me.

Then I handed the notice back and pointed out that it says I'm building the garage within five feet of MY western boundary - a quarter mile from his property.
:D:D:D:D:D

Hope you don't have to call the OMAR SHARIFFS. Just don't paint it baby-poo yellow.

Yep. Mrs WD went through a winter scraping snow and ice off the truck and begged me for a garage for it. :D

So I'm putting up a 40x22 or 40x24 (depending on where the property line is) garage. She thinks it's for the truck and her garden tools. ;)

We're tearing down her "potting shed" and putting the garage roughly where the red outline is.

Build a tiny model of a garage and place it 5' from his house.

Or move the shed over there!

Put some survey stakes in the ground in the exact area he was scared you were going to build it. 40x22 layout. Have the construction trucks dump the lumber/ etc over in that area.

When he says something, say "Yeah... I reconsidered- I think the shed would work better over by your place." :D

Edit- Do this on April 1st///

Getting rid of the she-shed?

john70t 03-22-2019 06:40 PM

Keep the shed. Where are the guests going to sleep?
(or you :D )

Can you blame him. Im sure he was seeing red by the time he read that part. Like why would they send him the letter if it wasnt near his border. I hope you both had a laugh about it afterwords. Its fun to make fun of the neighbors but being on good terms with most of my neighbors has payed off so much for me.

That's the exact question he asked. Every property that abuts mine got a notice. County policy I guess.

We did have a laugh, and he apologized.
I'm trying to be nice to him, though I don't trust him - he's a bit strange. The first time I met him Owen, my little dog, had gotten loose and was on his property. We picked up Owen and had a little chat with the guy. He told me a neighbor's pit bull got loose and he saw it across the road (on someone else's property) and shot it. I don't know if it was a weird kind of bragging or a warning. We are careful to keep Owen home now, for sure.

That’s the policy here too. We have considered paving up to the property line to add another parking space. Neighbor on that side is perfectly ok, but I’m going to have to go through this same process and make sure all the other neighbors are fine too. Plus my HOA.

On a serious note, that shed is cool. If there is a quarter mile in question can't you have both?

wayner 03-23-2019 09:51 AM

Why did this thread make me immediately think of the first few seconds of this clip?
(you can stop watching about 3 seconds in. I see your neighbor as the old woman :-)

My thoughts exactly...tie in the potting shed.

Patrick, it looks like the sun comes in on the left side of potting shed. If you can manage to have enough garage space and keep a potting shed for your wife, I suggest the potting shed be located to the left of the garage bays.

The shed looks great. "Cute" I think is the word. But it is built very poorly. It's sitting on rotting posts and the floor is giving way. If I kept it it would mean major rebuilding. We've used it for a year and neither of us are liking it. It's more of a kids playhouse than a serious building. The ceiling is 7' and it has ceiling fans - and I have the bruises to prove it!
It's a shame to have to evict the snakes, possums, skunks, and raccoons that live under it  ( full disclosure, I haven't actually seen skunks or raccoons, just snakes and possums).
