I’m selling my 76 Turbo for reals this time. I built a website to market the car.

First, its better than i could ever do. However, From my iPad, I can barely read or see anything. Also, the content, font, and coloring and feel looks very outdated. Marketing is one of those things you either need to do right or not at all. If this is not your thing, $500 goes a long way with a college kid who has a passion for digital media.

I'm using Chrome on my Dell laptop and can't read anything either. I get the same view as the screen shots above.

On FireFox the site looks the business, well done.
The "Vulcan" pic was a nice touch. Beautiful car, btw. |

General comments: Lose the crash bar and yellow foglight on the front of the car. The artsy photos are nice (well, some of them are worth keeping) but you need to photograph the car in detail, in one place. Don't just use whatever photos you have on your computer. There needs to be a section where the entire car is photographed, at one time, in one spot. Don't use any photos of your other cars, track events, or anything extraneous. More detailed history on the car needed. Good luck. |

The site looks like something from the 90s. Get a copy of Wordpress and spend an hour reading a for dummies guide. Use a mobile friendly skin. It’ll be 1000% better. |
First of all - thank you to everyone who has replied. Thank you to those who replied where the site hasn’t loaded properly. This is great information.
The site loads properly on every device in our house, my work computer, etc. I’ve tested in in Chrome, Safari, and Edge on multiple platforms including laptops, an iPad, iPhones, and a Samsung tablet. I agree when it doesn’t load properly, it looks like something I would have done in 95 or 96... I tested it on one of those website that give a screen capture on every browser... some look good and others are a mess. I’m going to call godaddy tomorrow to get this sorted out. I built it with their web tools. |
The gallery and contact info are all that are needed. Looks great and I imagine you are flooded with inquiries....

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but why the need for the website? What's wrong with posting it in the traditional sources. Seems like a lot of effort for little extra return.

It's kind of dark on my MacBook Pro with Chrome. Nice site, though.

Looks bad on my mac pro. The reason why people post on established sites is because they already have tens of thousands of viewers. why go back to the 90's. It's like opening a store in the woods vs a busy road.

Why not list on BAT? It costs you $100 the buyer pays the rest.
At least approach them? IF you do not like the terms they dictate you say no. My buddy was going to list a pristine E30 Vert he found on CL for very cheap. He cleaned it up, tuned it up, did the usual maintenance and approached BAT. They said they were not interested. Which was a mistake, 3 weeks later they listed this cars clone for sale. He is now selling his 1991 M3 and said he will not list with BAT out of spite. So, in the end, what do you have to lose? Give em a shot if they say no or dictate terms you do not like then no loss on your part. The potential is getting top $$ for your car with no work on your part except answering questions from bidders on there. |

The reason for the website is to establish that I am not a flipper. This car likely won’t be sold locally so Craigslist and Kijiji are not the right avenue.
I do plan to have the car at Luftgekult. |

Done this with 4 different vehicles. Built a site with an honest description and reason for selling with honest comprehensive pictures AND point out any issues. Then posted ads on other sites like autotrader, cars.com, PP, etc. In those ads just put one nice picture, listed what the car is and price and include text a prospective buyer could copy/paste into their web browser for more info if interested. The web sites I created are linked to below. 90 928 GT 944 Turbo Old Range Rover CayenneS Listed a fair market value asking price. Could easily tell if contacted thru the ads by scammers or tire kickers because they asked questions that would have been answered if they had visited the web site. Every vehicle was sold within 3 months at or very near the asking price. Most of my sites I took the asking prices off because I kept getting calls despite saying sold. |
Just my opinion, but I would not even bother responding to an ad from a seller who built a website.
1) It is almost a guarantee of a crack pipe asking price from a seller who thinks he owns a 250 GTO. That is why there is no asking price. 2) It may also be a sign of a "vanity sale", where the seller is more interesting in interviewing people and marketing the car rather than making a quick sale. Like that guy in the Midwest who has a hoard of old 911's that he never sells. A serious seller would have posted on Facebook, 15 major CL cities, and on PP, and BAT. The seller may be in denial, and not even realize it. This "selling" is more of an event and process to him, rather than a transaction to get done. My cynical guess is the car never sells. |
