Netflix to $15.99. It’s been nice.....

This might be where I get off the train. A shame.

What?

masraum 04-09-2019 03:49 AM

Mine is only going up to $12.99

fastfredracing 04-09-2019 04:05 AM

Still far better than a $150.00 a month cable bill .

berettafan 04-09-2019 04:05 AM

Email I got this am says $15.99. iirc that’s double from when I first got it.

mepstein 04-09-2019 05:07 AM

We have free internet so $10-15/month for Netflix is easy to justify. We've been with them since it was a disk mailing company. Both my kids, one at college, one working, use our account so it's really 3 seperate locations for the price. Totally worth it to me.

chapstic2001 04-09-2019 05:26 AM

Pricey? Meh. Maybe, but the content is way better that what regular cable and OTA TV brings. Both original and non-original content.

How much is HBO? Who has better stuff?
Just a thought for context.

Dumped Netflix a few months ago, mainly because of content, or lack thereof. Movies that I had never heard of that were straight to video, docs that were free and then PPV the next time I wanted to watch. They would be dumped now with the price increase, anyway.
Have Prime now and am much more impressed with the choices available.
If I did not have to take HBO to get some of the sports networks for racing, they would be long gone. Absolute crap IMHO, all 5 channels that I get. How many times can they show The Bourne Supremacy and The Hangover. Plus all the really bad stuff I have never heard of and Bill Maher.

Gogar 04-09-2019 07:38 AM

Mine going up to $12.99. Fine with it.

Sounds like you have "premium." If you don't need to watch 4K or watch on FOUR TVs all at the same time then you can dump back to normal at $12.99.

This

And FWIW, check a cable bill to see how much set tops for 4 tv's would have run you for the month.

HardDrive 04-09-2019 09:35 AM

Come on, give the scale of one's monthly expenses, is that really a burden?

ZAMIRZ 04-09-2019 09:37 AM

The irony of this post on a Porsche forum.

Gogar 04-09-2019 09:43 AM

Oh come on there's WAAAAAAAAAY stupider threads on PPOT. Maybe he just didn't know he had the most expensive choice.

On the middle tier (which will be $12.99) you can watch HD on 2 TVs at the same time, and download on a phone or two also.

Chocaholic 04-09-2019 09:43 AM

I’ve yet to find anything I’ve ever searched for on Netflix. But my wife and kids like it, so it remains.

Oh I’m not saying it’s the stupidest, but the way the original post is worded sounds like the value proposition is all of a sudden completely destroyed over a few bucks a month.

berettafan 04-09-2019 09:55 AM

I guess if we're gonna base our cost for things on absolute dollars then yes, Netflix is still cheap.

But let's consider it was an $8/mo service before and is no better now than it was. Yet price has doubled.

stevej37 04-09-2019 09:57 AM

I have Prime here...but the last few months it seems that the choices are terrible.

Thinking of going back to NetFlix.

Rinty 04-09-2019 10:00 AM

I've got both, but rarely watch Netflix, as there are enough documentaries and car shows on cable that interest me.

I have to work a bit to find something on Netflix that interests me, even in the documentary section.

To be fair that was 12 years ago. The company has grown and almost 20% of all the traffic on the internet is people watching Netflix. That costs a lot of money.

As far as content you're totally right and if you're not finding stuff you like there's more choices than ever.

I have about $30/month worth of Sling and I enjoy it. Lots of on demand choices etc. You can also turn it off and on at will; if you leave the house for 2 weeks you can unsubsribe and start right back up when you get home. I also have my big-ass home antenna hooked up and get about 50 stations from that, and they show up right in the list with the streaming channels.

You could even cancel the streamers and just use sling with your home antenna and router, to save running cable everywhere.
