Soaking Carb parts

Hello

The carbs on my CB350four are tiny and disgusting, because apparently someone didn't drain them or use any sta-bil, etc. over the winter. Might have been named Gogar.

Anyway, WHAT can I soak these teeny tiny parts in for success? Just regular carb cleaner?

WHAT should I spray into the body of the carb and let sit?

Seems like regular carb cleaner would evaporate quickly and not have a chance to break loose all the gunk.

Thanks

Oh yeah sorry

Don’t they sell gallon or half gallon cans of carb cleaner to soak parts? Never used it because I like brake cleaner better.

You want to use this product:

Wear gloves when handling parts that have been sitting in this.

Beautiful machine, Gogar!

Here's what I have used in the past and works pretty good:

yes there are the paint-can style things with little bowls included, just asking for opinions.

Thank you!

I had a CB400. Red. Loved it.

Do people dip the whole carb body in there?

I don't want to remove them from the bracket. I'm willing to sync them but I want it to take an hour not 4 hours. lol

Thanks for the tip, Java.

I have not tried this one but see it has very good reviews on Amazon and is only $29.90 prime.

I put one in my cart. ;)

Yes they do. Although, it may not be necessary. Usually it’s enough to clean the float bowl’s, the floats, and all the Jets.

Just wear a respirator and gloves or you'll have arms growing out of your head and stuff.

Gogar 04-09-2019 04:46 PM

Thanks

I just watched a video of a guy completely disassembling cleaning and reassembling 4 keihins like this. Holy moly what a lot of parts.

javadog 04-09-2019 04:46 PM

Post a decent picture of what you have and I’ll tell you how far you need to go with it.

Berryman is awesome, I don't know if its Kalifornia compliant anymore. If it hits your skin you will stink like it for weeks.

I can't remember which forum I found it in, but old-school formula Pine-Sol works great.

What Baz posted....Powerful stuff. In the old days, it would eat thru the side of the can after about 6-8 years.........The new stuff is watered down and not as strong.

Don't put whole carb assembly in.......There are plastic bushings and O-Rings that will get eaten up.........Put in your float bowl, main jet, pilot jet, idle jet and Emulsion tubes........Blow out all passages with compressed air............

I sold a CB 400F a few years ago.........Nice bike......

I hadn't seen any here for years until last year in a Napa store. I grabbed it on the spot. I had thought it had been banned years ago.

You will have to disassemble the carbs after a "soak". Gaskets and seals/needle and seat. Soaking isn't a fix.

I like to rebuild one carb at a time on 4 carb bikes. Recording the settings, before disassembly.

For those who like the Eco friendly cleaners, be very careful. The eco stuff will ruin parts, if the directions aren't followed.
