James is napping after securing most of the bottom-most rows and once his winning total has become unbeatable.

He’s no longer going for the cash. I think now his intent might be to break Jeopardy! perhaps in some kind of tribute to Alex.

He’s winning for Alex’s amusement.

^^^ I agree. Enjoy the "ride along".... these moments are epic....and will POOF, be over when we least expect it...so will Jeopardy from my perspective.

It has been a hoot....

Thank you Alex and James :)

I think that's the case too. He seems to lay back at some point to let the other contestants grab some of the low-dollar clues, then he jumps back in all of a sudden when they've had enough time at the trough. I'll bet that he could pretty much run the entire board if he really put his mind to it. He's in total control of the game from the very first pick right thru to Final Jeopardy.

James' timing with the buzzer, his rapid-fire selection of the clues, not to mention his incredibly broad knowledge of the most obscure trivia, must be incredibly intimidating to the other contestants. Past superstar champions have played the game very well and have won big money, but none have been as forceful a player as James Holzhauer.

I agree but not sure why? Just to take a mental break? It's not like Wheel of Fortune where second and third get to keep whatever money they earn, in Jeopardy, they only get $2k for 2nd and $1k for 3rd no matter how much they had. James is only hurting himself not trying to answer as many questions as possible.

Crowbob 06-02-2019 03:25 AM

He’s not hurting himself if he lays back after his total is unsurpassable. His potential to earn more money the next day is greater than the potential he can accumulate after running up the score. Right now, I think his daily goal is to not lose, rather than earn more money. By laying back he reduces the odds of losing money to zero. And finally, there’s no point in continuing to compete after the daily doubles have been revealed. Aside from knowing everything about everything, the DD are key to his winning. If he gets both, he can double his lead twice.

The man is disciplined. He’s developed a strategery and is sticking with it. Also, there may be some showmanship at play.

Makes the program w/o him pretty boring. Wonder what the future will be for the program after he is beaten?

Crowbob 06-02-2019 03:59 AM

I think with Alex gone alottof the hard-core fan base will leave.

BTW, taping of this season is done so the bigwigs already know if James loses or not. If he hasn’t, I think they will use his dominance as a private reason kill the show.

Alex is selling his summer lake-front home (at a discount), including all the furniture, tools and toys. He’s somewhat of a home-improvement guy so that seems ominous.

And supposedly it indicates he lost . I guess a 50/50 chance it's accurate :D

biosurfer1 06-03-2019 07:30 AM

I saw the clip and if it's a fake, it's one of the best fakes I've ever seen, though it's very, very odd the way he bet, so who knows.

Maybe someone trying to show how far deep fake technology has come?

It happened as I said it would. Opponent hit the daily doubles and bet big. Also had enough to cover him in the final. He did high five her after she won. Be cool if she has a long un.

URY914 06-03-2019 05:42 PM

Thank goodness.

Crowbob 06-03-2019 05:52 PM

Why did James bet so low on FJ?

I am guessing, even all in he could not cover her max, she had more than him. If he was wrong he still covered the other guy.

pwd72s 06-03-2019 07:52 PM

Hooray! I can now stop watching stupid game shows...

He figured the woman would bet enough to cover if he doubled his money. She bet big earlier so she probably would again. If she's right, she wins. If she's wrong, she has almost nothing left. If James bets big and is wrong, then the third place guy wins. A small bet was his best chance.
