Can someone recommend a driving school?
Is Bondurant the way to go? I think it would be fun to do to a 3 to 5 day performance driving school. I live in NM so going to Phoenix or Vegas might be preferred but open to other sites as well...maybe Miller Motorsports or what ever it's called now in SLC.
Anyway curious what PPOT has to suggest. Thanks!

What do you really want to learn to do and focus on?

Had not anticipated this question so hard for me to answer. I guess I would say I want to go mostly for the experience in general. Overall I would like to learn better performance driving skills. I'm have no plans to go racing but have done track days over the years with various cars. I don't currently own a performance car but considering buying another one later this year. Right now I just thought it would be fun to go spend a week driving a performance car with instruction to improve.

Didn't Bondurant just close down in bankruptcy? In my area (Colorado) Go4it Racing Schools runs programs all the time for SCCA and NASA licensure at High Plains.

They are open with some new funding but I'd be wary of anything requiring an up front deposit. Fast Lane Racing at Willow Springs might be a good way to go.

Isn't there some super cool stuff that you can do at the two Porsche spots (Atlanta and Cali somewhere?). Ask Jack O or find his old thread.

How about Spring Mountain?
Ron Fellows has a school there.

Hmmm. I've wanted to do something like this forever (prepped rally car, 300 acres to hoon around in)...

I would assume being in NM miller motorsports park (is it still called that?) is the closest track to you? or COA in texas? id look to the tracks as most times an established school has exclusive rights to a specific track for their programs. I know both sears point and laguna do here in my area. I might suggest greater track time than class time with a sedan or something with enclosed wheels. in the open wheel school programs the cars/drivers are so vulnerable they need to really be conservative with speeds and exercises for the students.
as I recall miller MSP used to have a ford affiliation where mustangs where supplied for a race school there a number of years back. I know you said a race school might be more than you want, but look around, figure out where you want to visit, where you wanna drive n in what type of car at what track. look into how the schools are rated by x participants reviews and determine if you might like what they hate, or hate what they liked.. you might have to dig some because the hosts are not going to post negative reviews on their sites. but google will find you a sour lemon over the experience that you will need to consider his 2 or 5 rating to be legit or a complainer. in parting at least buy your own helmet, gloves, sox, Nomex booties and a snazzy new suit. they may have your hans available. any high performance driving school will require them, but you don't want them to supply their stink ass stock..... look forward to seeing what you do.

Skip Barber
A few years ago my son and I went to the Skip Barber driving school at Laguna Seca track. We spent about 8 hours learning various driving skills and then got about an hour on the LS track driving a variety of their Porsches at fairly high speeds. Great school and fun track! Not cheap, though!

We have done Miller in Utah for the Boss Driving School and Dirt Fish.
I can't say enough good things about both of them. Rally driving and track driving are very different styles. How you enter a corner and exit are very different. I found the instructors at the Boss school were more knowledgeable about the why and physics of driving. That being said the rally driving was more fun and we are planning a trip to O'Neil, which is on our side of the country.

BTDT. Qualified instructors know enough to keep you safe and enjoy yourself. AFA specific driving techniques and theory, not so much. If you were to be lucky enough to have the best instructor out of the pool, it might be close to an equivalent to a pay for school. The school guys and gals do this for a living — every day. And they know the cars they are using inside and out. They don't have to guess if you got your tire pressures right or how you set up your camber.
