yesterday was just one of those days
So yesterday was supposed to be a quiet Easter day for my wife and I , we had no real plans which is one of the great things about being retired :D . So I finally decided I was going to mow the lawn which is about 1.5 acres of our 2.5 acre property . The tool to do this is a 1986 John Deere model 330 garden tractor with a 50 " deck . Engine is a sweet 3 cylinder water cooled diesel Yanmar . And so I started mowing .
I was aprox. half way done when I looked down at the dash just to make sure nothing wrong going on and there is a mystery fluid  pouring out of the dash and all over the fender pan and my feet ! I immediately stopped and while the tractor was running slowly opened the hood . There was a small geyser of diesel fuel spraying straight up from a rubber hose that obviously had a pin hole in it . Oh well not the end of the world I'll just grab some rubber fuel line from my stash-o-parts and be done . None to be found :( So off to FLAPS to get 1 ' of hose and some new clamps , got her put back together and started her up . Ran rough as I expected being a diesel had to work out some air in the line . About 2 minutes later she cleared up and all was good ........... or so I thought . I finished mowing the front yard which is gentle rolling land . Then headed to the back which in spots is quite steep and a little rutted . I was mowing along and it seemed to me it was steering difficult  . I looked at the right front spindle and it was 3/4 of the way out of the axle !!! The external snap ring apparently decided to flee to the border ;) and was somewhere in the yard . So I did my best to gently mow and completed the task . Have to get another snap ring and she'll be fixed . So much for the easy day :D |

Been there, done that, have the tee shirt.
Ya just got to look at the bright side. The fuel didn't catch fire, the wheel didn't fall off. You had dinner with your wife and it wasn't hospital food. Day didn't go like you planned, but could have been way worse. |
I've been fortunate- tractors have been cooperating lately.
Yesterday, I was out in the yard attending to a dry creek bed which has become the mississippi delta since the recent rains. In the middle is a sycamore, the roots of which have diverted the stream and turned the yard into a mud bog. It was 65 degrees and brilliantly sunny. The new spring growth was green and the air fresh. The stream (river) was fresh mountain water runoff. Crisp, cold, and clear. Clean enough do drink. I got to a point where I was chopping some roots with a long axe, and every time I'd take a swing, the roots would splash the water right back at me, completely drenching me in the process. Soaking wet, covered in mud and fresh cold spring mountain water, I felt like a kid again. Happiest I've been in quite some time. Very refreshing! :D |

At most any cashier line, they'll ask you "how are you doing today", expecting the common lack of emotion  answer of "Fine" My typical answer is "It's a great day, I'm not bleeding in the back of an Ambulance". been there. Anytime you see an ambulance on the road, somebody is having a really really bad day. |
Today I picked up another snap ring , installed it and all in the universe is lined up again . I agree this was no big deal it was just annoying .
|
I would take a shower in diesel every day for a week if the guy I have in the hospital were struck by lightning or something.
|
wait until the diesel that leaked all over the turf starts to do it's thing. you should see if you can determine where the leaking fuel starts and ends then re-mow those passes at the lowest setting to get as much of the soiled turf up as possible.
don't know if watering it would be good or bad as it could sink into the soil affecting the roots. maybe simply after the additional low mow let the sun have it was with it for a few days to aid in evaporating the remaining fuel. |
I had the police called on me today...top that :)!

Well a snap ring and a fuel line isn't bad for an 86, but those older KC911s are apt to let go without any notice.
Not on any new meds, I hope... |

KC911 you need to chill out , life too short to stress out over something that someone else said . It's just words . Spend some quality time with that pup . It will do you good . Take care

^^ Is that a chocolate lab ? Good looking pup that looks like he/she is interested in the water :D Unfortunately my wife and I are heading to our vet today with one of our weiner dogs , he's 16 years old and it may be " that time " :( We have had him the entire 16 years so this is going to hurt . Good luck with your mental health and give that pup a pat on the head for me .
|
They bring such joy...then it hurts on days like today. My pup's a champion...like a lot of Pelicans...best to you....and thank you.

Good news Mickey our 16 year old lives for the immediate future . He apparently has strained neck muscles and/or the vertabra in that area . For now drugs and rest ....... being 16 all he does is rest ! We take him back to the vet next Wednesday for a follow up. I am glad we didn't have to put him down .
|
^^^^ That's awesome....Long may he run...
Yellow Layla awaits Mickey on the other side....Moka sez give Micky a treat....;)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1556137410.jpg |
We have been very fortunate with the trio of daschunds. Mickey who's real name is Michelob ( yep that's what I drink ) is 16 and we have had him for 16 years . Sophie our female is also 16 we adopted her and we've had her for about 13 years . And then there is Dexter he is 14 years old and we have had him for about 12 years . Dexter is partially paralyzed in the rear legs but he doesn't know it and he's the tough guy of the bunch . We love these little doggies and try to make every day special . We know the clock is ticking . But today was a good day and Mick has had plenty of treats and drugs ......... he looks quite content !

I've had a dog nearly my entire life.
My last little doggy was half doxy. He died a few years ago. Don't think I could do that again, maybe after I retire. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1556140028.jpg |
It is always hard when you lose one . I am also a long time dog owner , I don't remember a time we didn't have one . We have had doxies , beagle , Weimaraner , lab , Springer spaniel and more doxies . Dogs like people run the gamut of styles and behavior traits . They each bring something to the table and give love 24/7 . Can't ask for more than that from man's best friend .

My dogs have all been strays
