More laser fun - making a new Porsche part.

I posted recently about the aggravating job of replacing the door handle gaskets in my 968.

Finally got the sockets connected, after a total of 24 hours. While the door panel was off, I noticed one of the foam pads was in pretty bad shape. So I made some new ones. ![]() ![]()

While it will technically cut PVC and vinyl, it'll rust the machine and likely kill me. Here's the materials list https://www.epiloglaser.com/how-it-works/laser-material-compatibility.htm

Any pics of the 968? They are lovely, but rarely seen.

Interesting video. Does it always go back over a cut? Is that to blow air, prevent warp or burn?

What is it you use it for in real life, aside from the custom replacement for perished foam bits inside the door of that beauty car, what color is it inside?

Very cool, my brother has a similar setup and does all kinds of cool stuff with it (in addition to heavy production work on stencils).

One thing I did notice is that the foam you cut appears to be open cell where the original part looks to be closed cell. Depending on the application this could be a big deal.

Laser's main purpose is to cut pickup bobbin flatwork out of vulcanized fibre.
