I turned the race on just after the accident happened. Thought it was because something broke on Sato's car after seeing the first replay from inside one of the cars. Then they later showed the replay from behind. Nope, nothing broke on his car, just a dumba$$ move on his part.
Glad no one was hurt badly. Rosenquist sure went for a ride on that one, glad he is OK. I can understand Wickens feelings after seeing it.
My buddy Zeke in KC is going to go to the STL race. We're going to work out his flying out for the Laguna race. Hope to make that one in Sept.
Too bad this race was shortened by the weather, but that was one big thunderstorm they were dealing with.

Fantastic race in STL Saturday--the best one I've seen in a long time. I had a blast wandering around the pits, and even met Roger Penske.

Aside from the race, they had an incredible exhibition of vintage Indycars that ran several sessions around the track, including Joe Leonard's STP turbine car and several of Rick Mears' cars. That was awesome. Loved the houndstooth seat in Parnelli's car.

Newgarden played it perfectly. Herta should be stronger next year, which is kind of scary.

The Dixon Pagenaud battle was brilliant. If Dixon did not have those two mechanical dnfs, the championship may have turned out differently. I was surprised Rossi had nothing today.

Kudos also to Bourdais and Hinchcliffe who both raced well with neck issues.

Some really good driving today. These guys know how to go left and right with huge competence. Rossi had tire issues and there was no way he could catch the top four. Colton was the class of the field with excellent team strategy.

I think that Rossi may have issues getting his car setup the way he likes. When he is setup to his liking, he is unstoppable. He only seems to get it where he likes it 2-3 races a season. I think this is something that he will get better with with time. There are so many settings on a race car that he's probably not consistently hitting the correct setup with his engineer--especially if they approaching setup by changing one thing at a time. They are probably frequently chasing individual issues (rolls too much in corner 3, understeer in corner 6, etc.) without holistically addressing the "feel" of the car. I'm just guessing here but you can tell from his performance when he is happy with the setup.

Having been to Laguna many times I really enjoyed the helicopter shots of the track they had during the coverage of the race. Got a lot better perspective of what it's actually like going up the hill on the backside. Hard to see as it isn't really spectator friendly over there.
Thanks for sharing those pictures in the earlier post of the old cars. I can still remember going to the Santa Monica Civic auditorium to see a live broadcast of the, I think, '64 race. B&W with Cris Economaki (sp?) doing the commentating. That was a lifetime ago.

Brilliant drives from the entire top 4. That was some racing....

Amazing drives by most of the field. So refreshing to see, especially after watching the tire/economy run of the Singapore GP in the am. The Indy drivers were working hard, you can see it. The F1 drivers complain constantly they can't race, time for a change in that series. Not a big Dixon fan, not a hater either, but wold love to be able to drive as smooth as he does.

Compare that to Dixon and you see the difference between good drivers and an elite 5 time champion. Dixon takes a 10th or 12th place car and puts it on or close to the podium. Rossi puts a 7th place car in 7th. I'm not a fan of Dixon but you can't deny his skill at keeping the car in the race, "making fuel" and virtually never making a mistake. There is a reason they call him "the iceman".
