There were a whole lot of things going on that race control was trying to manage on the fly. it wasn't perfect, but at least they got the idiot blockers out of the way (Oriel, I hope that was a momentary lapse of reason, or did Alex make a pass at your wife?)

Not exactly. The drivers put their lives on the line and expect the other driver to be a pro and "leave enough room". Once Rahal was that far up, SB should have held his line instead of pinching down. Rahal had every right to expect a seasoned pro to give him that. You will hear commentators say "he left him enough room" or "he was smart to back out". Both expected the other to blink first up ultimately, SB had the control of situation and could have just left a little room for both to make it through and continue racing.

Or as I suspect, it was payback for a pr-ck move Alex made in the past to him, a friend, or a team mate. Payback without risking life or machine.

Did you really watch what happened? Bourdais was going right to pass, then Pigot moved hard right to go into the pits. Bourdais then went left to avoid Pigot but clipped him. Sucky racing incident.

Por_sha911 06-02-2019 03:53 PM

One of the race announcers said that Pigot signaled he was pitting (common practice especially on ovals). SB knew the pits were up ahead. You don't pass right side at that place in the track.

+1. I think Indycar is a far better series these days, and this kid will make big money. For everyone. It's fun to see the differences between him and Bryan. His dad was a great driver, quick and cerebral, but didn't have the killer instinct it took to win. "The Pass" by Zanardi was kind of a metaphor for his entire career as a driver.

Colton's got the killer instinct his dad lacked.

greglepore 06-23-2019 04:42 AM

Yes he does, but if you believe some interesting reporting many of the former champs in the field feel he has a little too much, as in he might get himself or someone killed.

Por_sha911 06-23-2019 07:19 AM

In F1 you have to have political savy as well as driving skills. I don't see Herta doing well as a back marker taking team orders to hold up the field for the team superstar.

As far as dangerous? Rossi or SB are more dangerous on the track than Herta.
Do you remember last year when Rossi ran folks off the road in two different races. Legal? Yes. Respect for other drivers? Not a clue. He has total killer instinct to win at any cost and loses it if anyone is in his way.

madcorgi 06-23-2019 09:33 AM

I remember hearing all those same comments about Senna.

It’s a harsh sport.

legion 06-23-2019 11:31 AM

Well, that was a pretty dominant performance.

Andretti better pray that they can hold on to Rossi.

chapo 06-23-2019 11:37 AM

Dominant up front, fun race watching the guys through the field. Great to see some hard racing without whining on the radio, protests, and time delays like F1

astrochex 06-23-2019 01:05 PM

An entertaining, competitive race without yellows or weather. Indycar delivers again.

I don’t mind the gap to second since its the exception rather than the rule. It means one team nailed it so kudos to them.

rfuerst911sc 06-23-2019 01:20 PM

Good race to watch and Rossi dominated every lap. Per Robin Miller silly season all revolves around Rossi . He stated it was a two horse race between Andretti and Penske with Gannasi being a distant third. Time will tell .

Por_sha911 06-23-2019 04:39 PM

The Herta team screwed up on tire choices and after that it was the Rossi show for the win. Total domination. The rest of the race was exciting with 2-10th and Dixon making a major comeback. I imagine that Andretti wouldl sell off the rest of the team to keep Rossi.
BTW, did you ever notice that Dixon gets one third of the airtime coverage no mater where he is or what he does?

chapo 06-23-2019 05:32 PM

True about Dixon, I don’t root for him but he has a habit of making big comebacks. Huerta is the real deal. Love Paul Tracy as an announcer. The Pruett Fade and the Chrome Horn always make me chuckle
