Do you have Prince Albert in a can?

I remember my folks had the same fridge for a long time. Finally got a new one when Dad couldn't find a door gasket for the old one. It was one of those bottom freezer ones with the pedal you stepped on to open the freezer and had a big lever handle to open the fridge door. Not a no frost model either so every once in a blue moon Mom would have to defrost everything in the freezer.
She ended up getting one of those side-by-side models that became the fad about the time harvest gold took over the colors. After having it many years she finally confessed that the door situation wasn't conducive to use and didn't recommend getting one.
Freezer on top works well for us as cold air flows down.

My parents had a freezer on the bottom fridge for years. Mom hated it as she got older. Having to bend over to get out or put in food was a pain in the back. She had hip replacements and was not really able to squat and get up easily as she aged.

I have a GE Monogram that is whisper quiet. Great fridge!

We had a JennAire that was so quiet we didn't know when it was running. Wifey wanted to take it with us when we moved but the people that bought our house insisted that it stay. No fridge, no sale!

Got my older kitchenaid fridge fixed last year and they put in some new rubber gromets that made it quieter as well.

I've got a panasonic. It works well. Does a bit of gurgling at times when it's doing an automatic de-ice or something, but generally it's quiet and very efficent electricity wise.

A man's got to keep the bacon and beers in the best possible manner he can.

I got whatever this model was 4 years ago. Dead silent.

At Lowes yesterday because they always have a dozen or so scratch and dents. Nothing I can use there. But they had a GE in a display running as well as a Bosch. So I determined if they were cycling by hold my hand at the bottom grille to feel hot air. I leaned in and placed my ear on each door. The Ge seemed quiet at first but I realized I could hear it 3 feet away even with the store noise. I know, that seems extreme but I wondered how loud that would be in the quiet if our home.

The Bosch was very quiet by comparison. I think I found my target.

For the record, our fridge backs up to a thin wall that is between the kitchen and the reach-in closet in the bedroom. I can hear it if anyone opens the door at night. Nothing I can do about it, but the ice maker dropping the ice sounds like pouring bricketts into the bottom of the BBQ. They all do that it seems.

Also, we live in a 1930's house with a raised floor construction that is really a very large drum head. Even the cat walking down the hall can be heard at night. But, he's 15 pounds! He's a rescue so I wasn't the one that overfed him.

I have a GE Profile, very very quiet

You don't realize how noisy a fridge is until you sleep beside it. :(

Back in the stone ages when I was a kid, dad was an Air Force Pilot. We moved all the time. We bought a fridge for one rent house. Then we got base housing. It had a fridge, so the only place for the fridge was in my bedroom. Dad kept his beer in there and all the leftovers from mom's cooking.

Typical Air Force, officers are pretty much required to have social parties with wives invited as well. All the guests knew if they wanted a beer, to help themselves, and the beer was in my bedroom. It flabbergasted a lot of parents. I knew better than drinking dad's beer. He was smart enough to know his stock.

When we moved into this house 23 years ago w did not want that ugly old fridge in our nice kitchen, so I gave it to a friend that had a lake house he needed a fridge there. He sold that lake house a few years ago and the Harvest Gold fridge was working just fine, and still ugly.

You know, those things can be painted. I have a buddy who used to do that and learned the business from his dad. They did kitchen and bathroom stuff, mostly for apt complexes, they'd do appliances, bathtubs, counter tops, cabinet doors, etc...

We had a KitchenAid French door bottom freezer (intentionally with no front water/ice dispenser) for many years and now the kids have it in their house. It's possible that I may have replaced a part or two on it at some point, but I can't remember for sure. I really like the bottom freezer and the French doors.

I always seem to have an anecdote about any given subject given my tenure on this earth. In 1983 I bought a foreclosure house with my then new wife (still married). We had been renting a house with appliances so had no fridge. I was on a job where a lot of remodeling was taking place and the Amana fridge was available at a really good price. Having moved in the new house with no fridge I was anxious to get this home. Only trouble was it was brown and my wife did not like it much. We didn't have a lot of money with most of it going into fixing up the repro house so it stayed and stayed. Wouldn't break. We lived there for 10 years.
Appliances (painted) can be refinished. I don't have any idea how much it would cost to just do a fridge, and I've never (that I know of) seen the results, but it's possible.
