On doing nothing

Now lets not gloss over this "doing nothing" thing so easily.

My wife says it's weird that I consider it entertaining to just sit there and think.
She says, "think about what?" I say … "everything".
it bothers her so much she has to stop it with conversation.
uh huh, yep, ok, uh huh

This needs a thread all it's own. This is EXACTLY how many conversations with MrsWD go. She simply cannot fathom the idea of having a thought that you don't vocalize.
I have no problem saying nothing. I'm not real comfortable doing nothing, but I think it's therapeutic. I feel better when I can force myself to stop being so damn industrious and just sit and think.

I am on on the same wavelength with Sammy (god help me). Anyone else?

Yep, I can sit and do nothing and just think. There are times that I can even not think too.

masraum 05-24-2019 03:31 PM

As a matter of fact, I'll bet that I could sit where ever this is or anyplace remotely similar for quite a while without feeling the need to speak.

Sometimes, when there is nothing to do...well...that's what I do.

Mrs Rocket does a running commentary of what she’s thinking and doing.

Drives us nuts and we’ve told her so.

No change. 🤪

I don’t do a lot of talking. Keeps me out of trouble. Thinking is called meditating in my world.

I can't even imagine doing nothing. If I did, I'm pretty sure I would disappear a la Descartes.

Closest thing I do to do nothing is log on to PPOT.

Nor sure where I heard this, but I've repeated it many times.

You know what really fries a woman? It's when you sit down and quietly do nothing after busting your ass for 10 hours. Drives em crazy.

I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in central Florida!

Cell phone conversation with the GF? Longest time so far where I didn't have (or get a chance) to say a word was 17 minutes and 25 seconds. I think I made the mistake of asking how her day went.........

I talk for a living. All day. Constantly. I have a rigid schedule. When I get home I want to just relax. My lovely bride has been home all day and wants to talk. I love her so I set aside some time as often as I can to let her talk
and talk
and talk

She puts up with me and I love her dearly so I sit and nod and try to genuinely be interested. Sometimes I miss the boat on being interested but at least I show her I love her by setting time aside for her.

LOL. Role reversal here. My wife does not talk much. Drives me crazy. She gets annoyed when I talk a lot about any serious matter. She prefers that I just figure it out quietly (without her input). It helps me to talk it out.

Sometimes we are sitting at a restaurant, quietly waiting for our food to come (really not talking at all) and the woman at the next table loudly jabbers on and on about some stupid nonsense...and I realize that my problem may not be as bad as I thought. Although my wife can be annoying, I m afraid I would have to kill that woman.
