What's the best way to cut off nails poking thru roof eaves?
When I replaced my roof a few years ago, I made sure I used the shortest possible nails because I was tired of banging my head on nails in the attic. However, I failed to notice that the nails are poking thru the eaves about 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
I'm getting my house painted in a few weeks and I want to cut off all the tiny nail points under the eaves. I bought a snipper with long handles for leverage but I was thinking that a grinder might work better - or a dremmel with a grinding wheel. Anyone with experience on this? Also, do you think the remaining cut off nail will eventually show thru the paint (i.e., rust, etc..) Any advice would be appreciated. |

If you can get a large pair of these nipper/dykes they work well....

Put up vinyl soffit, and never paint again
![]() If you cut or grind them, you will go thru the galvanization, and have rust spots.

Thanks! That's the exact type of snippers I bought but mine is about 2 feet long. I haven't tried it out yet but I will.
Thanks! |

Channelock dikes that resemble the ones pictured, you got long ones, that's good ,more leverage.

Why not use a Dremel with a cut off wheel?

Use the nippers, but make sure you wear safety glasses because those tips will shoot off right at your face

For some reason, some of the little screws holding the sections of my downspouts together were crooked. The advice I got was to head over to Lowe’s to try and pick up a pair of hobbies.
It worked. |

Dremel will take too long, and use dozens of those little disks. If there is a harbor freight near you, get their $10 angle grinder, an abrasive wheel, gloves and safety goggles. $20, and will get it done quickly.
