Hope all the Dayton OH area folks are okay!

Just saw the damage caused by a tornado that went through the Dayton area last night. If anyone here needs help or knows someone who needs help, I have a Bobcat with tracks and can be there in a little more than an hour. I'm not seeking payment, just offering help.

I also have two portable generators available. Both are 5Kw. I know finding a generator if you don't already have one after something like this can be a struggle.

51 twisters across 8 states in 1 day? Being an east coaster my entire life I can't even imagine.

We are in Columbus, everyone in the office dragging ass. We had warning sirens going off until 12:30am. Hard to sleep after that.

Thanks for asking.
One hit about 2 miles northeast of here. Brookville is about 8 miles northeast and the town was devastated. They are clearing the streets with snowplows.
I was out watching the sky and it was amazing. The lightening flashes were near constant, it was as light as dusk at midnight. While a tornado with hail and drenching rain was only 2 miles away it was almost calm here. Little wind and no rain at all.

Crazy stuff. I hope for the sake of those affected that the severe thunderstorms don't hit. I put calls in to everyone I know in the area letting them know I have generators available if they know anyone in need. Stay safe!

That is common. Tornadoes most often only hit a very small area. It will devastate what it hit, but 6 blocks away it is fine. Hurricanes decimate large areas or an entire metropolis, tornadoes just hit a few blocks and lever the other areas fine.

It can be scary if you have no warning.

My neighbor’s son lives in a tornado effected area a few miles north. He has a generator but it wouldn’t start. I volunteered to work on it. I don’t know a lot about generators, but this has a fuel cut off solenoid that isn’t opening. The low oil switch grounds the ignition, I don’t know the purpose of the fuel switch. There is no battery, so I don’t see how it is energized.

My daughter has a good friend from high school who lives in Dayton, and said the house they just moved out of earlier this year was hit, and their new house was in a neighborhood that also had damage....she slept through it all.

My Brother lives in Brookville and was lucky enough to not have any damage. The tornado's path was about an eighth mile away. Very lucky. Last I heard, they had power in the middle of town but no water.

I have a cousin that also lives in Brookville. They had a little damage but are safe. Three or four other family members scattered around Dayton are safe. Mom and Dad live about 25 miles west of Dayton and it missed them totally.

I live about 25 miles southwest of Dayton and didn't even get any rain.

Glad everyone was being watched over.

The fuel cutoff switch stops gas from flowing through the main jet to help prevent backfire. The switch is just a solenoid that draws a plunger in or releases it when power is cut to open or close fuel flow. It probably gets power from the stator. Simple test is to drain the fuel (assuming it goes in the bottom of the fuel bowl) pull the fuel shutoff, connect ground to the hex head and put 12 volts to the terminal keeping slight finger pressure on the plunger, it should draw in when powered and then release when you remove power.
