2500 RAM vs HD Silverado- DownUnder
Hi Pelicans. A genuine request for info.
I tow big boats for work daily, work in the marine industry and live in NZ. Most of our towing is covered by smaller utes such as the Ford Ranger or Holden Colorado 1 tonne. But I need to tow bigger rigs. Currently we have a 2009 Chev 2500HD, converted at great expense to RHD by a local and hard core bunch of Chevy guys, Bunce Motors (credit to their work). Time to upgrade the work truck. Some Aussies have embraced this with Chev.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfYbxetB4VA And RAM, now available in NZ, same dudes convert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl_DpBCeQec What would HD new buyers buy? I want the best machine.

It is very, very expensive to convert these Trucks to RHD.

The RAM is made out of broken.
RAM is redneck lingo for ‘don’t own off warranty’... I have had 3 of these. They are great between breakdowns but sadly, breakdowns occur far too often. The last one sat in my yard with a broken transfer case for over a year. The cost of ownership on that truck was about $2000/month. The things that broke were amazing... steering box, 2 transfer cases, wheel bearings, throttle position sensor, heater controls, death wobble, the list goes on. The lower up front cost is quickly gobbled up by repair costs as these things start to disintegrate.

Don't get the RAM--please, just don't. Fiat Chrysler ended up purchasing ours as a buy-back--everything broke on it--HVAC, suspension, transmission, suspension, and did I mention suspension.

Matt, instead of a big ute, wellside truck, whatever. Why don't you just tow the boats with an Isuzu truck. A real truck. Not as cool but it probably costs less but doesn't break down.

Never thought it would be hard to buy a pic up truck, just did not know that they did not make them RHD.
As another option what about a Unimog 1300 or 1600. It looks like you are trying to find a new option though. Was in Auckland years ago, really liked it there, did a couple of races on a 54ft carbon hull sailboat out of RNZYS. I have a 2011 2500hd gas, 180,000km so far it has been good, would not go with a RAM.
