9:00-9:15 in they show the in-plane vid of the crash.

Note foam exit door popping open a few seconds before impact. Explosive bolts?

Did you see the bicyclist? Not much chance he would have been hit, but there still is that chance. So, RC guys don't operate in secure areas?

I would guess the aircraft was side slipping and the pressure imbalance caused the door to pop.
It sure was pretty until that last turn.

Huge batteries!

Great looking plane... I'm sure he'll build another.

One of my old buddies got into large scale model airplanes in a major way. He was a widower so he had the run of the house for his toy shop, and deep pockets.

He built the 1/4 scale Winnie Mae. He started with a 1/4 scale kit, then started over from scratch and made it far more detailed build. He did the weights and balances calculations to build the airplane around a engine to make it perform like the real thing. He even made a costume for himself and went to schools to give talks to school kids while he was dressed up like Wiley Post. He only flew it once, as he had crazy amounts of time building it. I sure hope that model is in a museum somewhere.

He had other large scale models he flew, but the Winnie Mae was his special build.

RC Groups has some awesome sections on large, scale aircraft.

I thought the same thing. The farmer works hard to plant and grow his crops. Then this guy crashes his RC jet in his field, spraying fuel and fire extinguisher all over the place, and trampling his crops.
