Safe spot to stay between Hartford and White plains on RT84
In a few weeks I am headed south to south Carolina. Can anyone recommend a good, safe place to stay along hwy 84. Don't mind staying in a higher end hotel. My main concern is my stuff in my truck not getting stolen.
Thanks

Just above the fray:

I flew into the Danbury Municipal Airport dozens of times...touch and goes. What route are you planning o taking to SC?

Thanks, we are going from white plains over to Allentown, then down hwy81. Doing this to avoid all the traffic around NYC and Washington, then back to I 95 to Pawleys Island.

![]() I wish I was kidding. You really want to get of I-81 at I-64 to Richmond. Then to I-95. The amount of trucks on I-81 is astounding. I drove it this week for a business trip. Richmond is easy to by-pass and your choice of routes improves greatly. I-64 is actually very nice in that section. Have fun!

I have been burned a few times on I95 going from Washington through to NYC, traffic jams last last for hours. Lots of trucks on 81 but it keeps moving though.
Thanks.

Marriot has some properties in Elmsford
84>684>287>80>81 Why not just find a place off the NYS Thruway(87) Then 87>287>80>81

I live in Danbury. The Springhill Suites mentioned above is about a 5 minute walk from my house. It is a decent hotel, but nothing special.
The Hilton Garden Inn Danbury at 119 Mill Plain Rd, Danbury, CT 06811 is a little nicer and has a better breakfast. If you want to step it up a bit, I'd recommend Hotel Zero Degrees on Milestone Rd. Terra, their restaurant, is very good. Stay away from Maron Hotel or the Super 8 which are off of exit 4 about 5 miles away from the ones suggested above. Let me know when you will be in town. Paul |

I was surprised at the lack of hotels between New Haven and Norwalk/beyond. Since our son was in school in New Haven, we generally stayed in Stamford if I recall correctly.
We always drove down to Westport, where I used to live, at least one time a trip to eat dinner at the Black Duck. Edit: Or maybe it was the lack of rooms available when we traveled up there. Fall and late spring |

I'd run 84 to Scranton, Pa. then down 81 to 66 then 17 down to Fredericksburg then onto 95.
No tolls and no traffic.

New Haven is not a place that I would recommend staying if you are looking for somewhere safe. It routinely tops the list of cities in Connecticut for the highest crime rate. It currently is 79.83% above the national average.

Thanks for the for all the info. Usually i drive right to Shippensberg PA, takes 14-15 hours . My wife finds that too long in one day. Don't know if it's the drive she is talking about or too much time with me in one day.

Get off my lawn!

We spent the night in Danbury, CT and I considered it a hotel trifecta plus one. The hotel we stayed at has an underground parking lot, and my 911 was parked underground (#1), next to a pillar so totally safe from door dings or weather. On the backside of the parking garage was a liquor store (#2) to stock up on beer for the ice chest.
Literally across the street was a really nice Japanese styled seafood restaurant. (#3) and next door to the hotel was a nice grocery store to stock up on road food snacks (#4) and as an added bonus just down the street was a nice jewelry so my wife could shop and buy a new wristwatch and her old one had just broken and was not worth fixing. Double extra bonus, the hotel upgraded our room to a suite for no extra charge, so we had a living room and kitchen area and the bedroom had a king sized bed. It was a great place to spend the night. I looked it up, the restaurant is the Bambu Hibachi Sushi and Bar and we did get a free breakfast at the hotel.
