Was told that by an old guy in the shop and have been calling them "jesus clips" for 30 years !! I've learned to put a rag over the top of them when taking them off.

I was thinking of something similar... how about a clear dry cleaning bag wrapped around the assembly... and your head if you're not a child and can assure yourself you can finish the removal or install before you suffocate, of course.

Tiny springs come to mind. If they ever tear my garage down and sift the debris, they could stock a hardware aisle at the parts store.

I was taught to call them "Jesus clips." As in "Oh, Jesus I hope this clip doesn't fly off."

The weirdest place I ever found one was dangling from the laces of my work boot.

That was after at least an hour of looking for it and gave up.
