I have to question if that still works fully analog and if that still checks all the boxes for what Vinyl listening people really want.
To be honest, I do kinda like it when there is an occasional crack or pop on an old Jazz or Blues record... I don't want perfect sound , i just want the lack of perfection or easy use of LP's Music is always there, car, computer, playlists radio.. i don't listen to it properly But with a record.. i have to do some effort.. put the old record away find new one get it out of the sleeve.. throw it on the platter, turn on amp turn dial to loud put the needle on the record And then I listen with a lot more focus and enjoyment... Most people have so many records anyway that they rotate them to the point they'll never wear out.. Sure if you have 1 record on repeat for ever.. get that lasuuuuuur :D |
My turntable: B&O Beogram 5500 Linear tracking arm
|
Does the linear arm in any way change or improve the way the needle sits on the groove?
are they more or less sensitive to skipping? |

it also has pitch control, but not in a slider which DJ's want. And much cheaper... Alternative for the SL1200 range is a JB systems Disco 1100 It's pretty much an SL1200 clone, I had em when i was 16 and was doing local DJ stuff.. Other the the snobbery of it aint a real technichs, they were pretty equal to the Technics.. but no , not for audiofiles .. |

original lacquer. I believe also eliminates anti skating issues. I have not noticed it being either more or less sensitive to skipping. Theoretically it should improve the way it sits in the groove, but that is also related to the cartridge and stylus design, material and shape. It works for me. |
cool, I may have to snap me one of them Technics linear ones , they got some nice looking ones and in any case this kind of gear is not going to loose value over time innit

Don’t know about that specific table but generally speaking a pain |

Some of the best ones I've heard recently are from Pear Audio and the new line of Rega Planar tables.

No unseen bolts. A Clearaudio Ambient. Just need to properly space the motor unit from the turntable proper.

Okay, I'll stay on topic for you. My 1970's vintage Techniques SL7 quartz direct drive linear tracking with Ortofon cartridge still plays my old rock n' roll vinyl fine enough to satisfy my old ears.

U turn audio
Made in the USA, belt drive, in the affordable range, cartridge choices, looks cool...
Anybody here have one? Should my old Techniques act up, may give them a ring. https://uturnaudio.com/pages/turntables |

Lots of good info here.
Next round we will investigate old jukeboxes. |

Of the four I have, Technics, B & O, Garrard, Akai, the main one lately, is the Akai from Costco that has built-in Bluetooth and can digitize to my laptop and then to the phone, hooked up to a Rotel phono amp, Yamaha amp and Klipsch speakers. For my old ears, just fine. I'm putting all favorite LP's on my phone so that I can listen to them in my car, the same exact thing I used to do with cassett tapes; get the music from vinyl to portable. |

AFA turntables go, jukeboxes have the worst design when the record is playing vertically. |
Not all play vertically

I compared sound from a CD and iPod through the Yamaha/Klipsch system or the iPhone through a variety of Bluetooth speakers and I cannot discern significant loss of sound, but then my hearing is 70 and damaged from a misspent youth of high volume music listening. I spent a year visiting one friend regularily who had an apartment over a hardware store in a commercial area with a 30 x 30 living room, two walls of speakers, each wall with it's own amp, TT's each with it's own amp, tuner with it's own amp, amps and speakers everywhere. We did some damage. Here's the specs on the one I bought but it is not carried by Costco anymore. https://www.akaipro.com/bt500 |

green ? or what?
just in case you don't know........I can't tell.. |
What about the classic (and cheap) Gerrard changer? Proof that nostalgia can trump quality...especially given that these 64 year old ears likely would not notice any difference!

I was just making some adjustments to my cartridge and thought about this thread
Did you ever get a turntable? |
I stumbled on this the other day...gorgeous turntables from Lithuania:
Jakutis | High-end,High-end patefonai,Lietuviškas patefonas,Vinilo plokštelių grotuvai,Vinilinė plokštelė,Vinilas,Parduodamas patefonas,Patefono variklis,Patefono diskas.Tonarmas,Lietuviškas tonarmas,Tonarmo efektyvi masė,Tonarmo ilgis |
That wood-wrapped Thorens on the bottom is nice looking to my taste. ^^^ I don't really go for the space age looking ones on this thread. I have a couple of old B&O Beograms on the shelf getting dusty, need to drag them out and find someone to service them someday.
|
Zeke that TD125 was my first "high end" turntable. I wish to heck I still had it. And the Revox B77 that went with it.

5500 in use. Works great! I have another 5500 new in box never been used that I need to pick up a cartridge for. Intend to use it as well someday. |
I used to have one of these (Empire 698 Troubadour), back in the day. It had this wonky raise/lower device that would lift the arm at the end of the record. The round touch pads next to the power switch would raise/lower the arm as well. Never could get it adjusted to reliably lower the arm slowly. Still have the Marantz 2325 and the Bose 901's, haven't been powered up in years.

I walked into this place last month and my mouth dropped. Owned by a couple of air-cooled vw and Porsche guys.
pitch perfect fine audio systems |
EMT 930 (or if you have dough, EMT 950) are hard to beat when it comes to transcribing LP's to another carrier.
I would not use them to "listen" to LP's as they tend to wear out the LP's. But they are great when it comes to delivering 100% of "what is there". <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/d2UM3jbNrkE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
